I've just finished my 1968 book (still need to find the 1966 and 1967 so back to the charity shops and second hand bookshops later.) In the interim I am going to read another from 1965 as for some reason Dick Francis published 2 in 1965.

The 1968 book was Forfeit. I'd read it before and quite enjoyed re-reading it but I liked For Kicks better. Odds Against is next.

I think what will be very interesting is seeing how times have changed over his years of writing. 1968 was very much of its day in attitudes etc particularly with regard to drink driving which is a key element of this plot. I wonder how much the later Francis characters will move with the times.

I think Stephen King wrote Thinner under the name of Richard Bachman, I read it and picked up on his style almost right away, I didn't realise it was written under an alias until much later, just thought he'd nicked his style of writing.

I commented a few pages ago that I liked the Bachman books. The Running Man was another of his short stories which was poignant and nothing like the shit film version. The Walk was another pithy read.

I've got "The Third Policeman" by Flann O'Brien for 1967. It's described as 'a masterpiece of black humour'. I'll let you know if it is....

Great book (as I recall from many years ago). Though you might need my slightly warped sense of humour.

I read "The Poor Mouth" back in the 80's and enjoyed it hugely :-)
