Hi gang. Just after picking your brains.

Back in January I did a 10k race, going over some rough ground I stood on a piece of rock/stone and hurt my heel.

I can walk and run with no problems but after resting it i.e. Sitting any length of time and often first thing on a morning it's painful until I get going.

I've done the usual stretches and exercises but not much improvement.

I read something last weekend about bruising a bone and the time it takes to heal compared to tendon/muscle pain.

Anyone had a bruised bone any ideas on how to fix it? Or indeed how to get it formally diagnosed?

When I am running I'm needing to do more stretching the calf than normal I presume it's related?

Thanks in advance.

I can't really help in terms of fixing it, but I tore the medial ligament and bruised the bones in my knee in April, and it's still far from 'right'.

I'd head to docs and see if they can get you seen by a specialist, as my diagnosis only came after having an MRI scan. I didn't even realise I had damaged the bone before then, but it's now the bone bruising that seems to cause the most problems, in terms of aching & niggles.

A few physios I've talked to have said that the ligament in my knee will be healed by now, barring scar tissue, but that the bone bruising would suggest there's cartilage damage (although the MRI didn't show any problems inside my knee).

I bruised bones in my knees, tibias & fibias some years ago. It was horribly painful and took over three months to heal. I had it diagnosed via MRI.

The only treatment available was physio.

Sounds like plantar fasciitis if the pain is worse after resting and first thing in the morning, it may be that the original injury has brought it on. May also be a bruised bone but the pain sounds very pf like.

Got something to say?
