Starting out running and struggling to negotiate the minefield that is stretching. Can any of the experienced ladies and gents offer me any advice on what is the best way of approaching this? I'm aware that what works for one doesn't work for all, and that personal preference plays a part, but some fundamental basics and general direction would be very much appreciated. Currently I'm running roughly 15 miles a week with no stretching prior to running, just a brisk 5 minute walk and a general loosen up of what feels stiff. Post run it's the same. Thank you in advance.

Hello Kimmy Plodder, welcome to Fetch :)

The only stretching I've ever done is after a run and is as follows;

10 x Calf raises
10 x calf dips
10 x quad stretches
10 x standing toe touches

And thats it!

I do however spend a lot of time on my feet after a run so that may help. I can't recall ever stretching before a run, I do warn up but don't recall stretching much, hope this helps :)

Kimmy I never do static stretches before a run but do exercises that fire up the different muscle groups and I also have an indoor bike that I use in winter before going out. I do static stretching after run and cool down.
