Thanks OB and Argie - yes, planning to just not eat (though miso great idea for lunch), then fish/chicken/salad for tea. Will have a look at cookbooks - recommendations welcome!

Well, first fast day done - not too bad at all. Just forgot about it really and kept busy, drank lots of herbal tea and had a miso soup for lunch, then roast tomatoes and cod for tea. I do like the simplicity of it. I do simple. :-)

yep, first day for me too. Easier than I anticipated, especially when I had to go to the supermarket early this morning to get stuff in for tea. I walked past lots of tempting things by saying "tomorrow, you can have them tomorrow" to my self. Baked fish & veggies for tea :)

Big fail for my first day -came home from work to find husband had cooked a big "all day breakfast" for tea! I'd had a mini lunch of cold roast beef and salad and had planned the same again. falling into a bottle of red to avoid arguing probably didn't help!

You need to eat 500 calories. It's fasting not starving.

On the big 5:2 FB group the general consensus is you should have up to 500. If you want to be really precise about it then you should have up to 1/4 of your TDEE, which can be calculated here thefastdiet.co.uk
So that's about 400 for me. I sometimes have about 500 and sometimes less. If I have 500 or 200 it doesn't make that much difference to my hunger levels I've found. I know many just have water and black coffee. Don't worry I more than make up for it on the other days!
