((Perry)).

On the subject of urine samples, when we had to get one from our previous dog - a bitch - the vet gave us what looked like a scoop. The handle was circular and hollow and you could attach a sample bottle to it. So hold it by the sample bottle, shove it under her as she went to pee, pee collected in scoop and flowed down into the bottle - worked very well.
Can imagine would not be so easy with a dog (as opposed to bitch).

Thanks TR
Our vet didn't suggest or offer such a thing - she just advised me to use a shallow plastic box/pot. It's going to be interesting on our walk this afternoon as I will have to hold the lead, while creeping up behind her with the pot in my hand, then bending down all before she's 'finished'. And having had a fairly intimate examination this morning from the vet, Wanda's not likely to take kindly to me putting my hand anywhere near her nether regions... particularly when she is doing something as 'private' as that.

(((Perry))) My Working Cocker is snuggled up to me like a soft teddy at the moment, but I suspect a fox cub would fare no better with him. We can only train so far, sometimes instinct over-rides everything, and thats why Jet is always on alead near known livestock . Deer, hares, foxes, rabbit etc have to take their chances if I don't see them first.

And I'm laughing at the thought of a urine sample. Good luck.

A miniscule sample has been delivered to the vets.... Wanda was rather horrified by the whole process particularly as it took several attempts. The speed with which she sprang up every time I tried to ...er... gather some makes me think she's been doing a lot of pelvic floor exercises.

I suspect she may write a blog about today, once she has stopped giving me those 'I hate you, what have you done to me you evil owner' looks ;-)

The sample was enough....and the good news is no signs of infection dog :-) (But Wanda is still not at all happy with me)

On Tuesday night Mr was awarded his certificates with two silver rosettes for Jet's position in each half of the 'competition'. Mollie the staffie took gold in both. Had Jet scored greater than 0/20 for recall over food he might even have managed gold for part 2 ;-)

Progress:

They practiced 'recall over food' again on Tuesday night and Jet walked straight past it YAY!!!! Hold the celebrations though.
It was 'only' standard dog treat, not black pudding, the trainer was ready for him and he knew there was no chance of stealing it, and Mr was holding a treat in his hand at the time. He *may* even have remembered that they are given the treat afterwards if they succcesfully complete the exercise. Jet knows how to work the odds. ;-)
