Sorry to hear about the settling on issues TR. A thing out vet told us was to show the dogs who was top dog between them. So when giving meals, fuss, etc, give that to the dog you want to be in charge. If you do this at the same time, it gives them an equal feeling. Hope that makes sense.

Rescues are hard work. Consider a behaviourist input prior to handing her back.

In other news, good news about Phoebe. She had enough skin around the cancerous bit removed for the tumour not to spread. Prognosis is fair and she shouldn't need any more treatment :-)

TR, what Dave says sounds sensible but I also think you might be better returning her sooner rather than later. Is Ollie normally very submissive with other dogs out on your walks? If not, I'd say you've a decent chance of getting them 'equalised'. If he's naturally a very timid dog, it might be less hopeful.

Good news about Phoebe, Dave, you must be very relieved.

We've got a limpy dog again. She had a very *very* energetic run/walk with Lily last Friday and has since been unwilling to put her leg down when she gets up after a rest. However once she's 'got going', she forgets about it and walks and trots around quite happily. I know I've posted about this before, and I still haven't taken her to the vet, which many will think is remiss of me, but it just has the feel of a muscle strain such as runners might experience, so I'll leave it until she has her annual jabs and discuss it then.

When we first had Eb we had another GSD and Eb made her life a misery for a couple of years... if it wasn't for the fact I knew Eb had been back and forward to rescues a couple of times I would have taken her back in fact I nearly did once when I was struggling with how often she bit me! I tried all sorts of training / behaviourist etc but eventually the existing dog (my avatar) learnt to stand up to Eb, and they established a reasonable relationship. Rescues are hard work, good luck.

I can confirm, rescues are hard work. Surprisingly rewarding though.

However, when we got Phoebe we did say that if there were any issues with her and Cookie she would be going back to dogs trust. She was a little domineering to start but they are pretty much equal with each other now.

Just about to take Nellie back to the rescue centre:(. We discussed it through with them last night and agreed it would be the best thing.
Gutted about it, but Ollie wasn't handling it. If he had been assertive and they'd been having skirmishes then we'd have continued and helped them come to an accomodation, but he was just letting her push him further into a corner - literally, he had taken up residence behind the sofa or under the computer table.
Totally agree re rescues - Ollie is our third rescue Springer, and they have all been so rewarding. Nellie will be a great dog for someone - she is a lovely dog, but just not right for Ollie.

That's a shame, but you're right to put Ollie first. I hope she finds a happy home and you chose another more suited pal for Ollie

Great news re Phoebe :)
