Our classes have come to an end now :-( as the shooting season's about to start. I suspect the Copse Hill trainers won't restart our group next year as they are really busy with puppy classes and the 'real' gundog stuff :-(.

Our obedience class has finished for the summer but agility carries on.

We have a local dog show to attend this weekend - Wanda was Best Rescue and Reserve Best in Show last year so a lot to live up to...

Just been looking at the schedule and I'm thinking Best Rescue, Waggiest Tail, Musical Sits and if we can get some practice in between now and then possibly Best Biscuit Catcher. I think we will give Loudest Bark a miss though as that sounds like it has the potential to turn into mayhem... :-o (especially if Wanda is in the class)

LD, I do occasionally read generic comments from the 'real' gundog folks about not making working dogs work properly. There is a bit of snobbery about 'pets'.

BBL, Wanda is a credit to you. The 'noisiest dog in the show' award locally goes to Jet's friend, Blossom, the Basset Hound. She is *really* noisy...
Biscuit catcher sounds like more fun :-)

I saw a TV clip about police drugs and firearms dog Diesel, a Jet-a-like, which used it's nose for public benefit. Now *that's* work that Jet would love!

Our Tuss would absolutely smash smelliest bottom burps dogdog

The other night he let go of a real toxic rasper then had the audacity to go and sniff my trainers :-)

:-o DT - sounds like a contender for the Best Trick class to me

It was a Viszla (probably not the correct spelling) that won Waggiest Tail at this show last year. We meet him regularly on our walks and it would appear Wanda hasn't forgiven him for beating her but I am trying to encourage a more dignified approach and rather than give him a reason never to wag his tail again we should just try to wag more this time ;-)

Its that time of the year when Eb and I don't go for a walk together; I walk and she sits under a tree hoping for a play date with a squirrel........

Vizslas are good tail-waggers. Tuss' wag starts just behind his ears heart

Poor Wanda....came home from the dog show empty handed today :-( But she was a very good girl and was fairly well behaved and relaxed most of the time. It was very hot so we did the Best Rescue and Waggiest Tail. By the time it was waggiest tail it was very hot and there wasn't much to wag the tail about really.

And unfortunately I had tried to do the right thing and put a muzzle on her when we got there but she kept rubbing it so we went into Best Rescue with a sore nose that was starting to bleed a little because of the muzzle.. didn't really impress the vet who was judging .. left the muzzle off after that and may have to look at different types now

Does anyone have experience (LD perhaps?) of the effect of breakfast cereal on a dog?

We came home last night to find a new box of breakfast cereal had been removed from the kitchen counter - we think the attraction was the cardboard box - but when Wanda discovered it contained cereal (Oat and Almond flakes) that was an added bonus. The cardboard had been shredded, the inner bag ripped to pieces and much of the cereal deposited in a pile on the floor although some was strewn around her bed. Almonds I gather are not poisonous to dogs, although hard to digest and can give tummy upsets and that would indeed seem to be the case :-o We think she may have had a little tummy ache last night but seems back to normal today although I think a 'tummy tablet' in her supper tonight won't go amiss!
