Over stimulation is something Lisa warns against at our training. She says people are surprised at how 'lazy' she allows her dogs to be on non-working days, but as she says, it's just like with humans, it takes a while for the 'buzz' (of a race for us, or a shoot for them) to wear off. If a dog has been spooked it could easily take a while to settle again.

Thanks folks. I think I got the cockapoo over-stimulated during play in the stream. Owner says she was quiet all weekend. Keeping it really calm today and she seems to be responding in kind.

Jet snaffled a Jaffa Cake tonight. To relate the circumstances would require me to speak ill of two other people who both should have known better but I am seething.
The emergency vet said that Jet should be OK but to keep an eye on him. Far from being nauseous or drowsy Jet appears to be on a caffeine high, and when he saw me replacing the remainder of the pack in the biscuit barrel after my meeting his eyes looked as if they would pop out with greed and excitement.

I'm finally sitting down. Jet is with me and he's quite restless; his heart rate is high. It's been 4 hours now . Dogs are such a worry aren't they?

I think all is well, thank you. He has been 'pooing' for Britain today though!

My evening meeting started 15 minutes late yesterday because I was on the phone to the vet,
"I have a 3 year old working cocker spaniel that weighs 9.5-10kg who has eaten a jaffa cake weighing 12g, the top of which is covered in 23% chocolate, and I have a bottle of hydrogen peroxide solution available here, what should I do?"

Later on I found an on-line calculator that returned a verdict of 'very mild' poisoning. I remembered LD and the Flossie/dried fruit incident and didn't want to get to that state. I also know that Jet can be very ill and still give the impression that not a lot is wrong, so when his back legs wobbled I wondered whether it would get worse. If he has a hangover today it doesn't show, and his heart-rate is normal again.

Worse than children! ;-)

Glad he's ok today Helegant.

We have warnings of blue-green algae being found in one of the parks in town - fortunately not one we ever visit, but a spaniel is thought to have been poisoned there this week. :-(

Jet is fine again. :-)
Blue-green algae appears at several of our local water-courses and there are always warnngs not to go near the stuff, but I've never really taken on board why it's a problem?
