Just seen the video I was laughing so loudly that Jet came to see what was wrong. All I can say is that he would have been just as bad!

I'm quite upset by something I saw on the way home. A dog jumped up at a bloke on the 'phone and was propelled through the air and onto its back. When I arrived, the owner was very upset at the over-reaction of the bloke; apparently the dog was kicked too. It made me think of Jangles and that horrible woman. It was a lovely, gentle dog and it was there with its companion + another dog walker and her 3. While I can see that a dog jumping up can be scary for some people, a moving your body away/turning your back is surely the way to go. I really hope the dog's not injured - it seemed OK after the event. The owner was visibly shaken and took his dogs back to his van. |

There is no excuse for kicking a dog or treating it as violently as that sounds. Sadly a lot of people don't know that if you turn your back or move away that's the best thing to do... even some people who own dogs don't know that. A nasty thing to happen for both dog and owner though

I don't know what to make of this story... of course it does sound like there is some history there and the man wasn't complying with a previous court order, which perhaps justifies the ruling but at first I thought it was a very harsh judgement eadt.co.uk |

I'm with the judge, Baroness. I'm disappointed the chap wasn't banned from owning dogs, in fact - the report says that he'd been ordered to keep the dogs muzzled and on a lead in public, 'after a catalogue of incidents' last March. Dog owners like him are a menace to us all

I agree with LD. I accompanied Mr and Jet to obedience class tonight. Of the seven dogs in the class, three were Springer Spaniels and there were moments of chaos during the off-lead exercises. At one point I was 'bounced' by Flora-the-escapee, who had smelled the liver treats in my posession and came over to ask for some. At the end of the class she came bounding over to check if there was any for her. My new best friend. Jet and Mr had a difficult time which ended up in complete frustration on both sides. Mr was 'being firm' and Jet had his tail between his legs and his ears flat looking very unhappy, but not obeying the cpmmands given. I learned a lot from being the observer tonight, and it was very clear that whoever has been encouraging Mr to be 'firm' with the dog is very wrong because it doesn't work. Jet thinks he's being told off and gets so anxious that I'm convinced he stops listening to the words and only hears the tone of voice. At the agility class we were told that only positive training methods are permitted, and if our dogs are not enjoying themselves then we will be sent home. Mr and I chatted about the events tonight and Mr is going to try to lighten up a bit and return to the idea of positive reinforcement. Watch this space. |
