Every Thursday a mobile fish and chip shop comes to our village. Usually I try to make sure we do not pass it on our walks, but I mis-timed it tonight and - as usual - Wanda's tail nearly fell off through wagging and she rushed over to sit next to the van and refused to move. The lady who runs it gave me a battered sausage - and wouldn't take any money for it, highly embarrassing - BUT the rest of the walk home was perfect, even passing (on the other side of the road but even so) two other dogs that Wanda very much doesn't like. Most of the sausage is now in the fridge to take to our training class tomorrow!! Even so I don't really approve of this cadging a free sausage and will have to make sure we do a different walk on a Thursday :-)

That's really lovely BBL! I have sympathy for Wanda, I can remember doing similar as a very young child with the ice cream van (minus tail wagging of course) , rewarded with a broken cone with a dollop of ice cream on top 😉

Aw! She earned the sausage, I think.

You made me think of a photo I took years ago, c**ts rather than dogs but still. We were on a Greek island, middle of the day, fairly deserted High Noon sort of street scene. A fish van suddenly appeared and instantly four cats of various colours arranged themselves to the rear of the van. Waiting.

The fish and chip lady told me to take the batter off the sausage first, which I did and put it in the bin.........

A short time ago I heard whining coming from the utility room (where the bin is) - the lid had been removed from the bin, but fortunately as I emptied it earlier today - the sausage batter right at the bottom of the bin was still out of reach. The bin lid is now secured with clips.........

Well done Wanda! :-)

Last week I let Jet off the lead in the nature reserve and he immediately ran several hundred yards back towards home including down the road, to investigate an interesting smell that I'd sadi 'No' to.

At today's agility class Jet decided that completing the course was fun, inbetween running off to follow his nose.

It is very frustrating and embarrassing to be the owner standing in the middle of the course when the dog has just said, "Hang on a minute, I'll be back to jump that when I've found the source of this cheese / did anyone drop some sausage over here recently?/ I'm just checking the rabbit has left the area" etc etc. Standing like an idiot calling his name or chasing him round the course is not my idea of fun!

I'm now wondering how to stop this response to distractions.

Fish & chip places are very appealing to dogs it seems. Just don't tell Ernie they sometimes give sausages away.

Helegant if you find a solution to nasal distractions please share.

Several updates Henry has made friends with the lamb, cats and several of the other dogs and there are some really endering photos of him curled up with one of the owners. I could just hug him to bits. Its a bit empty here without him

It sounds as though Henry has adapted to his new surroundings really well, which I should think will make it a lot easier for him to find a new family. A big relief but I can imagine how hard it must be for you SE xx
