Must say this week is a different story to last, after Longleat 10k I thought I`d just carry on as normal, took really a week......as you say 57.5,old age!

Feeling back to it, but Im sure Bramley 20,even though Im not racing it, will put stop to this refreshed feeling next week!

Afternoon all. Some training to report...

15M on Saturday morning, including pacing parkrun to 25 minutes. Ran the Scottish Fetch mile on Sunday, did not have anyone around me to run off so ended up with a time-trialy 5:05 which is pretty satisfying, small negative split too.

Last night I did a bit of a half marathon race prep. Basically I have set heart rates I loosely stick to over the first 5-6M of any half (I basically set these as the highest HR I will go to during that mile, so for miles 1-5 it goes 160-165-167-170-170, and after that I'm in the groove so run to feel). Did this last night, aiming for just over 15 minutes out & slightly quicker back (it's net uphill for about 3M on the route I was using).

Ran the first half in 15:30 and second half in 14:14 for 5.07M in 29:44 (5:52/m) & 165bpm/87% MHR overall. Intensity was controlled and could have done another mile and a bit without going to the well.

Really, really pleased. 2.5 weeks to go, and considering the shape I was in at the beginning of the year I might just pull this off.

YES- Duck, thats looking good.

Bath for me a week on Sunday. Legs tired, heavy with marathon training, honestly will not know until I start running what I will get, but 75-80 I will be happy.

Nice running Duck, good pace and great HR stats as well. I was in good form up until a couple of weeks ago where I had another HR episode (basically increased HR to point where it is literally beating out my chest). Since then I've felt pretty drained, picked up a cold/chest thing and struggled a bit during a key time in the marathon (Barcelona 15th March) training.

Was supposed to be running Kinloss to Lossie but had to pull out. managed to run the Kirkie 12.5 last Sunday but struggled a bit averaging 6.16 pace over the very undulating course. This Sunday its Strathaven HM but another hilly one so just hoping to feel less lethargic for the last few miles.

Managed to keep the mileage fairly decent during the illness though so hoping that once Im 100% I'll be back to where I felt I was 3 weeks ago

First attempt at a 10 mile race yesterday didn't go as well as planned. Never felt comfortable from the start, had a stitch from mile 3 -5 (I never suffer from stitches) but managed to keep going for a 1.01.33.

It was an undulating course and the wind was a bugger at times but it wasn't the confidence boost I was hoping for 2 weeks before Cambridge half.

A sub 80 probably isn't on the cards just yet but I'm hoping I can at least get into the 80.xx category.

Good work Chris- sounds like a good run out!

Wind is a bugger right now, looks set in for next week or so.

Nice work Chris, minus the wind I think you will be in with a good shout of sub-80.

Had a nightmare at the Scottish Nationals yesterday, inches deep much by the time we got going and I did not have long enough spikes on. So I had zero traction, ended up getting passed by the world and his wife and finished 7th for the club when I was confident of challenging the top two.

The positive from it is that I was really comfortable the whole way around (I just could not run for most of it!) so have not blown myself to bits 2 weeks out. HR was way low (lower than HMP for most of it). I know yesterday was a tactical error as opposed to physically having an off day so am not concerned, just disappointed I couldn't run well for the club.

Thats the reason I prefer road running, sliding in the mud is no fun if you want to race.

Oh XC is great fun, don't get me wrong (Sunday aside perhaps!). Mum (Mother Duck on fetch) is adamant that we're just not made for XC.....

12 days out. 7M @ 6:05/m this evening, 156bpm/83% MHR average. If that's not laid down a marker than I don't know what will. That 7M was probably the easiest tempo I have done yet.
