I have been asked: "But have you some official time keepers for the mile? So the times can be validated by UKA and Power of Ten?" Is anyone "official"? Rich? have any Fecth miles been officialised (I know that's not a word) before? this is getting rather complicated for this bear of little brain! |

You tell them to sod off. None of the East Angular Fetch miles have been "official." What do they expect for a handful of pound coins and a slice of cake? Fuck's sake...

@Rosehip - have to admit to getting a little concerned by the turn things are taking on the BAC forum - I worry some people are missing the point of this event!!! Assuming that there is no officialisationism, I'll go back with something to Meerkat et al (and e-mail Mark S about the electronic kit before he reads about it there!!)

They were actually offering their services free of charge, so I would not tell them to sod off! Rosehip all you need for a race to be official is a qualified starter and a qualified timekeeper. Both we have at the club and are willing to do it for nothing more than a slice of cake and a cup of tea. Whether the race is official or not is up to you, but all you need do is ask. Fmail if you want to know more.

I'm sure if John or others were happy to be official officials, it would be much appreciated. Some people will be treating it as a bit of fun - but others will probably welcome the chance to record a recognised PB at some different distances.

oops sorry Ed, thought you'd spoken to whoever is in charge of the electronic stuff! my bad I know nothing about anything that could or should be done to make numbers count, just signed my name to book the track. MrD, I wasn't about to tell anyone to sod off! and if we can make numbers official for those that want it then that's all good -- as long as those that just want a run in the rain and a piece of cake are happy too. |

We got complaints from some Fetchies at the last Jingle Mile because they thought it was getting too big and serious. We had quite a lot of C&C runners out giving it death because ChrisHurk and I pushed it at the club and it became part of our Christmas celebrations. You are never going to be able to please everyone, Rosehip. Just do what you can to make things run on the day. It's supposed to be a fun event for everyone, including the organisers.

I think that it's the draw of a mile time that makes serious runners serious Rich - it's a distance that people don't get to run very often and so having it official is a bit of a thing. If we can make some people happy by formalising a good time, then that will make me happy too - but as I said, I know absolutely nothing about anything formal - I have signed my name to book the track, I can bake a cake or three and I can draw up entry sheets, plan heats and shout a lot - anything else will need some help! If the club is offering that help, then we can take it for the sharp end, as long as we can keep the bulk of people and especially Fetchies happy. Since I'm not sure my stupid, f'ing, sore, left foot will let me run - I'll be there to do whatever it is that people tell me needs doing! as long as someone ttells me what that is - 'cos I haven't a bloody clue! |

RH - I had mentioned using the photo finish to Mark a while ago, and I've just e-mailed him, so no problem there. After the last time he might want nothing to do with it ever again. Ooh... and since I've been typing this and getting distracted by looking at new routes near Stone Henge he has replied and is up for it. Anyone else - whilst we do have a few speedy milers (including MrD) at Biggleswade, they are a very friendly and supportive bunch, so I don't think we need worry about it getting too big and serious. |
