There is a nice explanation of flowers on http://www.fetcheveryone.com/article-view.php?id=517 but bugs are pretty much a mystery to me. Any info on bugs gratefully received and I will volunteer to write an article on bugs if there is sufficient data to warrant such.

Things that are not obvious to me:
1) What does it mean by ". It doesn't matter whether you run onto a bug on your way out, or your way home." If I do a 5 mile run and come across a bug 0.5 miles away from my base on the way home, does it just move closer to my home?

2) What sort of penalties do bugs accumulate? I'd guess a bug on your doorstep costs 100 points a day and one a mile away 0 points, and linear between, but have no evidence for such. The 100 points seems about right.

3) How many bugs appear each day and are they randomly placed?

4) Bugs and the end of the month. Nothing at all in the game guide about what happens at the end of the month at all so clearly needs something about this.

1) The scoreboard and markers don't 'reset' on the first of the month any more. They work on a rolling 30 day system.
2) You only need to worry about red bugs.
