A non-running day for me today. I had cleared my circle of bugs yesterday, and got stung for 363 points from today's two But a flower harvest of nearly 19K, so not all bad

Just had 100000 points from my Sherwood Pines flowers picked and just noticed now revbarbarag you appear to be nearby. Wish I had ventured a little further to pinch your coins loved my holiday there and the Pines has superb mtb routes

That's right - the south-west corner is abut 3 miles from my house. I did see all those lovely flowers, but most of them are a bit further into the park... I'd have to be up for close to 10 miles to cash in. Unless I got my bike out, of course.... but my thing is running.

Go on Barb, you like to mix it up, have a bit of cross training on the bike while the weather's still good - it'd be rude not to!

There is a school of thought which says it is rude TO pick other people's flowers, if they have been assiduously planting and watering on the same route over a period of time, because then you pick them before they reach full points value, thus depriving the planter of potential points. OTOH, I am usually happy when people pick my flowers, since as AR notes I like to mix it up, and that includes my running routes. For the run of the mill runs, I do visit certain loops just outside my circle often enough to harvest the flowers. But if I fancy a long run somewhere a bit different, the flowers planted there are unlikely to get watered. |

But Rev, when you pick someone elses flowers, both you adn the planter get the points. So it isn't really rude to pick them.

"Why let a game control where you go?" he said, while vainly trying to conceal a large plank protruding from one of his eyes.

I'd be interested to hear what the general thread view is on picking other people's flowers - especially the ones with high points values. Over the summer when I was back in the UK, I went on a long (by my standards!) bike ride one day and picked loads of flowers planted and tenderly watered by another player. I got the biggest points haul I've ever accumulated on that one day - far more than I normally get in a month. I was delighted! Gradually, over the next few days, it began to dawn on me that I might have spoilt the carefully made plans of fellow fetchie. Should I have maybe asked him first? What's the etiquette? |

The point is, westmoors, that if someone runs the same route regularly they will not only plant but water their flowers, building their value up to 5,000. All they need to do is wait 6 weeks, and they'll get the full value. Whereas if the flower is picked sooner, they will get fewer points. I've only wised up to this recently myself - I've always been pleased when my flowers were picked. And if they are somewhere I'm not going to go back to, it is better for me if they are picked. But if they're on one of my regular routes, I will get more points if they are left to harvest. Like AtC, I don't know if there's an etiquette for this. Though I'm inclined to think that all's fair in love and fetchpoint... |

I'd never considered that people might not want them picked - living somewhere with a decent number of fetchies I'm used to continually trading flowers on popular routes - pick someone's as you plant yours, then someone picks yours and plants some more for you. I've got one stretch of my commute which isn't that popular and because I do it every day I build up some flowers but even there they rarely last more than a fortnight before someone picks them. To be honest, it's a game and people play it how they want. Different strategies have different risks. If you have a strategy that relies on building up to max value then getting them picked is the risk you have to run to balance out the potential reward. Although it's not really my place to talk of strategy as mine consists of little more than going out and doing some miles! |
