Probably the cables have stretched a bit, so they have a little less tension. You can put the tension back, effectively you make length of the cable outer longer. Usually the cable goes into a cable stop with a threaded piece. The cable inner goes straight through this bit. If you unscrew the threaded bit a little it puts more tension in the cable. (It can be easier to turn if you put the chain on the smaller cogs)

You may only need a quarter or half a turn.

I read somewhere that it wasn't the inner stretching, but the outer compressing... same effect, though. |

Quite possibly; most people describe it as the inner stretching though.

Possibly not the right thread but... Mavic press fit bearings with QRM system; the advice is tighten then back off a bit but I either get way too much play so the wheel is hitting the brake blocks if I stand up (well, I have to try quite hard) or it is so tight the wheel isn't spinning as easily as it might. Is there an easy way to do it. I can't help thinking I'm doing it wrong. |

If you look just above the lower jockey wheel you'll see a metal tab that goes across the side plates. If you remove your chain make sure that when you put it back the chain doesn't go over that metal tab before going round the jockey wheel or it'll sound like a ratchet clicking. However, if you should happen to make that mistake, check it when you first think "I don't remember it making that ticking noise" rather than waiting until you get back from your 40 mile ride. *embarassed* |

I did something similar the first time I changed a chain.
