Plus you have all the feeder towns for Stoney parkrun Laurencekirk, Bervie, drumlithie, jonshaven even st Cyrus? Albeit none of them have running clubs. Unlike Ellon who have feeder running clubs at Broch, peterhead, even Newburgh has a JS contingent |

I think JRitchie's idea of organising a free 5k to trial a route would be a good way to gauge interest. There are a lot of runners around these parts so I don't think attracting people to do it would be a problem, the key thing is obviously getting a dedicated team together who are willing to give a lot of time and effort to set it up and keep it going. Maybe a chat for the parkrun thread? There must be quite a few folk who have set them up on here. Of course Ron Burgundy set one up didn't he?

A dedicated team who aren't already up to their eyes in things they have already volunteered for! I thought that the team organising changed each week? Maybe a monthly one until interest is established? |

Ron Burgundy helped set up Buckingham park run which is in a town of a very similar size to Stonehaven and gets over a 100 people each week. Also, there are no park runs south of aberdeen until Dundee. I am willing to see I can get a group of people together to discuss it the first instance.

Oooh how exciting. I have always thought Stonehaven has a higher than average number of 'active' people and particularly runners. As others have said you get Stoney folks and those south too. It's got to be worth putting the feelers out. I am such a lazy biatch on the weekend mornings and staying in bed for that bit longer definitely appeals to me. Mind I'd have to get up pretty early to make it to Stonehaven

runners in the south of the shire/Montrose are a very disparate bunch, and hard to quantify. would love a Montrose parkrun on the old broomie airfield, but even one in stonehaven (dunnotar woods?) would be good to see.... |

And Montrose has a very fine café at the pavilion. I was thinking about Mineralwell Park and whether football or cricket would be happening at that time on a Saturday morning, does anyone know? That would have an impact wrt parking. |

Hi - quick change of subject, and a request of Aberdeen based folk. I understand there is a river trail on the south Side of the Don from the mouth to Persley Bridge. Is it any good? And, can anyone tell me if the new bridge crossing creates a huge detour? I am route planning. Thanks in advance.

JR, I've run from the beach to Seaton Park, and I've also run the track between Persley and Gordon's Mills Rd, along by the rugby club. They used to be fine enough but I haven't run in town for a couple of years now. Unfortunately I've got no idea about the bit in the middle, IIRC you had to take to the roads around Tillydrone. That's also the bit where they're making the 3rd crossing, isn't it? I realise this hasn't really been much use to you! Hope you get some better help soon. |
