Agree that the new range of Garmin straps seem far more reliable. And more comfortable.

Yes that's the problem my old 3iiii one I soaked for 5 mins apart from the first mile where it went to 98% it was 72-77% first half and 80-84% second half race spot on with what it should be.

Now if I could find a way of soaking the other lol

Really please with the progress in just 6 weeks of HR training

Same place, same distance, same HR ranges and very similar weather conditions:

Nice progress across all HR ranges there SSLP - Did the runs (that you remember) feel of a similar effort level at each HR band (to the last time you did them)?

I've found as the pace increases I have to work harder to get into the higher HR bands. I guess that is just progression, but to me effort levels don't always have a direct read across to HR - has anyone else experiemnced this?

I would agree. Effort felt the same really except for the higher heart rate (160), and I could tell the pace was faster

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
