i really enjoyed it. xmas editions are always a bit lighter and less serious. thought this one managed to be that while still neatly tying in to the 'real' DW storyline.

All reassuringly backslapping. Self congratulation rarely produces innovation imo.

So according to Digital Spy, Chibnall wrote Who episodes "42", "Hungry Earth/Cold Blood", "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" and "The Power of Three". Not a great pedigree. Still, a year's break might rejuvenate things? |

I remember 42. It was alright I think. Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was a bit meh but I don't remember the other ones.

He also did a lot of Torchwood, but not the best bits - Children of Earth was mainly Russell T Davies' work, and the first season was largely Chibnall's work, and not very good. Then again, he was lead writer on season 2 and it was way better. I thought the first season of Broadchurch was pretty good - ended up binge watching it right through, which I don't often do. I really hope he doesn't cock it up. |

I actually don't remember 42. Might rewatch it (thanks Netflix!). I actively didn't like Dinosaurs, Power of 3 bored me, and I wasn't a huge fan of the Silurian one. All of which makes me sound like I hate Who, but I love so many episodes, honest! |

Will there be a year's break, though? The article says that his last series goes out in 2017 - doesn't say he won't have a penultimate series going out this year. Unless he's too busy with Sherlock, that is. When do we get more of that?

I'm not sure where I read it, but it said that they were bumping this years series to go out next year as there were lots of events going on this year (Olympics, probably some royal guff, etc)

I barely remember any of those episodes other than Power of 3, which I quite liked. Mainly because of the bit where the sinister black cubes are used by humanity as paperweights and bookends, until they awake and wipe out a third of the population. So I expect the next series will be much like the previous ones, one or two really good episodes, the rest merely enjoyable and forgettable. |
