So... er... who was it actually put the ad in the paper? 11th Doctor? One of the 'other' versions of Clara?

It was hinted at the end that the advert was placed by Madame Vastra, but I didn't catch whether it was just fortuitous that Clara decided that it was that particular restaurant or if Madame Vastra guided her towards it.

a few random questions/points...

why does clara's accent wobble into Northern every now and again?
i can't remember who gave her the phone number all those episodes again - who was it? in my mind it was an ex-companion, but i could have just dreamed that bit.
agree with the earlier point that i couldn't understand what capaldi was saying now and again, though do think/hope he will be good.
i liked the idea that it was the companion ship to Girl in the Fireplace
would love to know when they thought about the matt smith bit - while they were making the last episode or was it an add on?
liked the new opening credit graphics, meh to the music
all in all though, a good start.

I thought there was too much trying to explain why he's old. Like they need to satisfy the public somehow. It doesn't need explaining, he's just different!

I believe Paternoster gang (Madame Vastra, Jenny & Strax) investigate crimes like Sherlock Holmes & Dr Watson. There was a reference to Paternoster irregulars - Conan-Doyle had Holmes recruit and use the Baker Street irregulars.

Is "Missy" a female Master? The Rani? A dark side of the Doctor like The Valeyard or The Dream Lord?

Loved Strax's failed entrance into the restaurant basement.

The Matt Smith cameo was filmed during the filming of The Time of The Doctor (Christmas special).

Loved Clara being hit on the head by the newspaper thrown by Strax.

Good intro, bodes well for future episodes.

I'm not really here, so just a couple of things -

- we don't know yet who gave Clara the phone number, it is implied to be the woman at the end (Missy = Mistress = female Master? too obvious?)

- the tramp who "gave" the Doctor his coat was played by Brian Miller, also known as Mr Elisabeth Sladen. Thought that might be of interest to some :)

Anyway, I liked it and thought it was well written, acted and directed, though agree with whoever said that Vastra and Jenny constantly going on about being married is getting a bit wearing. It would be nice if they could just get on with being a couple without it being a big issue all the time. Admittedly, one of them is a lizard.

re the phone number, i was sure that was actually shown in an episode when clare started. doesn't rose or donna or someone give her a phone number and say "it's the best helpline ever". or summit like that??!!?

sheri, nice to know about Mr ES, that's a good touch.

It was me sheri - the writing has suddenly got all heavy handed about it. Also Vastra's character seemed a bit changed.

I still think Moffatt phoned this one in.

Can do better!
