I really liked it. Story wasn't as complicated and contrived as some of last seasons. There was a feel of reminding us (or telling new viewers) who everyone is and what their purpose is, but that first episode after regeneration is always about finding their feet, I think we'll get to see Capaldi better over the next few.

Definitely a 'darker' aspect to his character, actually pushing him out of the ship (we assume), usually the Doctor finds a more pacifist way, I like the more ruthless attitude.

Do agree about Clara though, she's a bit wishy washy. Hope the new male companion is more like Captain Jack then Rory though.

There were some good jokes and I laughed quite a bit - particularly at the "I'm Scottish - I'll blame the English" section. I don't really get the Paternoster thing, whatever their name is. I think it's silly and, ahem, anachronistic.

Yep, there's a lizard woman and a Sontaran dressed as a butler waltzing round London with no-one batting an eyelid. Silly.

on tthe whole liked it - Capaldi did a good first turn as the Dr, love the new outfit - Clara needs to die, the Paternoster gang saved here from an even worse performance than the delivered.

Liked the new graphics, didn't really like the new theme tune.

Now I know the beeb only has three scriptwriters but c'mon these loads of good writers out there.

so on the whole thumbs up - I thought it was quite steampunk, the Tardi refit, the sonic screwdriver? or has that always been the same? Victorian London.

can't wait for next week.............................

I liked the theme tune, it's quite discordant which fits with the new Doctor I think...

Flatlander
I don't like the new theme, it's so wishy washy just like the first episode's storyline.
Am I the only one who had trouble hearing what Peter Capaldi was saying? Not because of his Scottish accent, but he was mumbling or talking so quietly for much of the time, it was almost like trying to hear Jamaica Inn again. The BBC seems to be forgetting that listeners/viewers actually need to be able to hear what is being said, rather than attempting to create "atmosphere" by inaudible sound recording.

I'd agree with that Flatlander but I'd also add that Doctor Who as a series has long relied too much on incidental music. Sometimes I can't hear what they're saying over all the bombastic tunes going off everywhere.

I wasn't convinced. What was with Vastra and her treatment of Jenny, why did Clara start by being ok with the new doctor and then go weird about it?? Acting ok, writing and plot..poor
