Thought I'd join in here. Not been active on Fetch for many years, although been an active lurker and learnt a lot from here. Trying to get sub 3:15 at New Forest in September, my best was 3:18 last year, but my training is now looking a bit more thought out.

Welcome Alan. Breaking 3:15 will go nicely with the sub-40 and sub-90 you already have. What date is New Forest? And I'll add you over there if you want --- >

I've finally got around to entering my target autumn marathon, so if you're updating the sidebar, please can you add me for Robin Hood (25/09) please PtB. As some of you have already noticed, I've increased my mileage a bit more (last week was a record mileage week and this month is already a record as well) this time around, and I'm still feeling great, so all being well I'll be aiming for another few minutes improvement on my PB in just over 8-weeks.

Bazo, Mat P was in our tests (university squad) and did have great numbers, the particular guy I was thinking of was more of a marginal national-level, but IIRC his physiological numbers were not that different to me or other decent club-level (but no better) rowers.

One thing I have learnt over last few years is that many people start a marathon plan and don't really ensure they are in shape to start that plan.

For example its no use starting to do 50 miles weeks 12 weeks out from the marathon if you have been doing 20 miles weeks for last few months.

I almost think you need a pre marathon plan, plan

Hope that makes sense

I agree GavD, however I'm the kind of person that needs a target to really get my shoes on and when I do I don't want to do it by halves.

A lot of my running so far has been quite easy, plus accompanying my wife on her runs helps keep the intensity down and so far I'm not having an issue with the mileage, although keeping a close eye on it.

I have started creating my pre-marathon plan, plan for next year, so in my head Stratford next year is the ultimate aim.

Glad to hear that you are committed to the Robin Hood Nelly - hope to bump into to you in the baggage tent about an hour and three quarters after I've finished the half :-)

Welcome Alan. As PtB says 3:15 is a perfectly achievable target given your previous time.

Precisely Gav. I'm in the worst shape than I have been since 2007. My plan between now and October is to work up to a regular 50mpw with mostly slow and easy mileage. Thereafter I will add a bit of speed and different conditioning prior to commencing my VLM plan in December.

Sorry, I forgot the thread rules. Shouldn't mention spring marathons until after the autumn races are complete.
