That's a weird one Baz, hope it clears as quickly as it came.

I think I've seen that PtB is back in the UK so can you do me the favour, make the sidebar much tidier and take me off for Berlin please? My foot is much better and I'm back training again but I just don't have the get up and go to do it all again so soon. I'm sure I'll fall back in to routine ahead of a spring attempt but I'll have to decide what to target where.

Incidentally, I think some of my lack of get up and go is a result of hayfever. It's supposed to be so much easier training in the summer, gah!!

My plan is to try out one of these P&L plans ahead of a busy race schedule in Sep / Oct. There are a few others on those I think (Postie, UtRaB at least), how are you getting on? Where can we discuss those.....another thread perhaps?

WW - Its just as sore again today. So sore in fact that I cannot actually sleep on my right side. I think I can today pinpoint where its actually sore, right on the outside of the upper thigh, not quite at the ITB

Good to hear you are on the mend but agree, Berlin is probably too soon. I made a valiant attempt last autumn in a similar timeframe and 8 mins down on my PB was as good as I could manage

Yeah Gus, the Lairig Ghru was brutal as usual. I was 5 minutes slower than last year. Was having a good run until the Luibeg Burn. Had a decent enough time up the steep climb but by mile 13 the knee pain was all I could think about and the seconds slipped away. The boulder field for me is not a problem, it's just the 3-4 miles of rocky trail either side I find tough. Legs are getting better, I ache in places I didn't know could ache, and the back of my neck is nicely burnt from the sun. I will give this race a miss next year (really I will) but I'll be back at some point. Great to me LouLou. Stoosh should give this race a go.

Sorry to hear your still on the bench baz, take care of that old body ;-)

Cam, it might be on my radar after lou described the boulder section to me...

My legs are just about ready to start running again so will do a short run tonight to see how bad they are!! Less than 6 weeks until the next ultra then another 2 before I alter my training back to marathon specific for next spring!

Happy running all :-)

Yes WW, I'm following the P&L 12 week 5K plan, have been on it for 5 weeks now or so, another 6 to go before my target 5K race. It's going well, logging around 70 mpw, nothing earth shattering I have to say, just more focus on VO2/Speed, 2 quality sessions per week which rotate LT/VO2/Speed.

Definitely feeling in good shape though, have my first tune up 5K next Saturday and hope to get under 17, but that will be a good indicator I hope if I can realistically get near my pb of 16:40..could be a tall order, but we'll see.

I really enjoy it, pretty much same amount of miles as marathon training, but no dreaded 20 miler on a Sunday :)

UTRAB - I'm the opposite. I'd love to be getting some speed back at 5K, 10K, but I dread the P&L schedule (in fact, I've ditched it). So, I've put a plan back in my Fetch calendar - but it's a P&D one, so it's got 20 milers in it! Would rather plod 20 miles in the hills, than knock out tempos or intervals any day!

Bazo, sorry to hear you've got a niggle. Just cumulative damage in your cycles of training? Rest up and you'll be back strong in no time. Stoosh, great blog, amazing time for a debut and even more good stuff to come, I'm sure. :-) G

Afternoon all. Back from (low-mileage) holidays since the weekend. Lost some fitness and found some fatness, so I'll be picking things up again from a slightly lower base. Although running might slip a little on priorities for a bit, while we have some pet health issues. I have a quite extraordinary set of x-ray pictures that were taken just before we went away, but I can't share right now. Once the dust settles maybe.

Stoosh - great run (and blog). You must have really meticulously been studying all previous years results in order to guarantee that 1000th finisher prize. What did you get?

Side bar amended for Duncan and WW. WW - being 'up for it' is a necessary condition for a good marathon. And if you're not, then fair enough to give Autumn a miss. Did you secure your GFA place for next April? Or are you definitely for not-VLM?

Baz - sounds like a weird one. Any reason though that it definitely *isn't* ITB? Was it the usual bike / saddle height etc. on Sunday?

PtB - no real idea it just doesn't feel like ITB now that I can poke at it a bit. I was on the exercise bike and all at usual height although I did sense my right leg maybe wasnt quite on the right line that it should move on. I suspect its all part of this alignment thing in my hip and I need that sorted before I can do anything seriously. Physio in the diary for Friday anyway so will see what he says

I'm not sure I could do it all year Happy, it's a bit full on, but I see it just as a heavy training block. I follow a bunch of runners on strava though, that do exactly seem to knock out that kind of training all year, maybe why they are so quick!

It fits really nicely around my schedule also as you do more doubles, which is nice in summer! Also love going to the track too, but start of August I will be ok with putting the plan away :)

I was really knackered every day/night a few weeks ago, but something seems to have clicked up a gear now, maybe body has got used to it finally.

haha ptb - they did mention before the race that they were close to the 1000th finisher but i had no idea what position i was throughout the race, not even sure my crew knew either!! No prize though but did get a bit extra introduction before collecting my goblet..

My planned run tonight is in the balance due to heavy rain - cba with that on a run that will be slow and probably painful ;-)

Currently searching for my mansuit....
