Huntsman's right Nelly, stick to the plan and let it do the work for you. Worked for me for Abingdon, it's working well so far in my London build up.

I peaked too soon last year, but I only lost a few seconds by feeling "off the boil" on race day. The confidence of sticking to plan is much more important than any other fitness gains you may make.

This year I am struggling to get into shape (mentally and physically) - count yourself lucky ;)

with a 2 week taper you've effectively got 6 weeks to go Nelly. Count them down, you're nearly there. Soon you'll be feeling the exact opposite....it'll be 4 weeks to go and you'll be asking yourself whether you've really done enough training (you will have)!

Yes thanks Nelly, been out for 10 miles this morning :-)

I don't think an easy week would have any impact on you - I think I'll be fine after my few days off, and I guess you'd not stop completely

Just adding to the chorus - now isn't really the time to slacken off Nelly, unless things are really difficult for you.

Thanks all for a pretty resounding response. There was certainly no intention to slacken off, just make the cut-back week a little more pronounced than previously planned (40mile cut back week compared to 50mile cut back week). WW - if everything goes to plan I'll need my head examining if I'm seriously thinking "have I done enough training", as it will be about 15mpw more than I've previously averaged.

Oh, and great to hear you're back on the road again Gus... hopefully we'll be able to ignore each other in the pub post-race again this year ;-)

Nelly you can't control where you peak, it's not always obvious, but it is possible to peak more than once (although not in quick succession). I've peaked 7 weeks into a program, which is a complete pain in the arse, but just log your feelings, and worst case scenario you will learn from it for next time. But stick to the plan, yes.

Most of us runners do seem to worry about aspects of our training. I have four tempo miles tonight raft have been pkaying on my mind yet if it was a parkrun I would know I could easily hit the pace I want. However not confident that I can

Baz - I am dutifully watching the weather forecast to pick the best evening to try my 6 at LT. Sad!

Nelly - I am storing that up to quote you back in a few weeks time.....
