Have to agree about the crap course at Bournemouth, first half not too bad but the pointless loops to make up the distance are tedious. Nice event otherwise but the route will put me off doing it again, along with the high price tag. I was pacing a local lady today to sub 3:15 but that unraveled for her from 15 miles (just about where WW shouted out to me). I waited for her but in the end we agreed I would carry on to run the target pace in the hope she managed to pick it up again (this was unlikely to happen). I finished in 3:13 and she 3:20, which were both decent times. I was expecting this to be a relatively easy sub 3:15 course but it isn't.

Glad you think that too Paul a. I really didn't enjoy the 2nd half.

Good racing going on today at Chester, Bournmouth and Glasgow from what i see WW - forget today, discard it like a bad training run... Forget today's run and move forward to Valencia:) Finished off my drink education over the weekend so time to start doing a bit of training over the next couple of months and see if i can motivate myself to race again!! Keep up the good work folks:) |

Me neither. Just as I felt like I was getting into any rhythm then it was a pointless loop or add on. Add the headwind for the last 3 miles and not a lot of fun.

Busy day of racing WW - my view is that unless your regularly running marathons/ultras, then marathons are still hard and even just doing one as a training run it still needs to be respected, so in retrospect doing 11 miles at your true MP on Wednesday, and no taper since, was maybe asking a wee bit too much ? As others have said, put it down as a lesson learnt, recover for 2 or 3 days, and prepare well for Valencia Unlucky Hunts, you've easily got the speed to get past that 3:30 barrier, get that endurance built up with a few more longer runs, and sure you'll take a decent chunk off your pb Baz and Lou - good solid running there, making best of limited training. :-)G - nice time, sure you'll be quicker again at Alloa Daz - great 10k time ! How did donran get on, have we heard ? |

Snuck under 2 hours at the Chester "metric" event today, after an over-ambitious 7m/miling for the first 5 miles. Why I throw away a perfectly sensible plan each time and get carried away with the early pace, I'll never know. Anyway, great experience for me on the road to eventually signing up to a full and targetting 3:15. The biological clock is ticking, so need to get this cracked in the next 24 months I reckon! |

Tough time at Chester yesterday. Tightness in glute/piriformis during the warmup which I thought I'd eased off came back at the first hill (mile no 1) and every subsequent hill (there were a few). Ended up with cramp and eventually had to stop after the water station at 22 miles for a stretch. Pleasantly surprised with my time (3h 15m 40s) at the finish line. Thought I'd dropped a lot more time when I was struggling. The slowest of my three marathons this year but with the benefit of hindsight I'm chuffed that I stuck it out to the end. Was doing mental calculations about how long it would take to walk back to the racecourse from 17 to 22 miles. Well done to everybody else for their races yesterday. Some amazing efforts. WW: Valencia seems like the ideal opportunity to banish those demons. I'd get your chin up and crack on as soon as the legs will allow. You'll be far better prepared in a month's time. |

WW, what Gus said, you'll be fine for your target marathon Well done Donran, to have the mental strength when it goes like that is a real test IMHO ION I had a shit run too, Congleton HM for me, 1:26:58, did it in 1:21:26 last year! Not at the same point in my mara training cycle, and hard week working away etc etc excuse excuse. Putting it down as a good tempo run and onto this next week of training now |

Donran, just saw your comment elsewhere about me staggering around the finish area at the end! Yup that was me. It was bizarre, I felt a bit light headed and knew where I needed to get to, but I just couldn't get my legs going in a straight line. Like being really drunk!! When I did get myself out of the finish area, after meeting up with a clubmate briefly, I decided to lie down for a bit as I felt a bit odd - and that's when my terrible leg cramps happened, literally paralysed, because as soon as I tried to stretch to ease one muscle group, another one cramped! And I was trying to drink lucozade to get some electrolytes in me, but it made me feel sick! Moral of the story don't lie down (or even sit down) after a hard long race, keep moving!!
