Nice to catch up Gus - you had a good race - the wee lad that bet you is about 11 I think. His older brother is 16 and was third overall and the younger brother who is under 9 got round in about 40 minutes I think. Their parents were also running! I was annoyed about my time after race but it's only 24 secs slower than PB and second fastest 5 mile race. our coach was there and he politely reminded me I've got bugger all speed at short distances and shouldn't expect to be fast! Just need to run this pace for 13 miles in a few weeks time - hopefully not running the first 0.75mile gradually uphill in a headwind at 5.48min/mile pace will help!!! This is but a building block - if I'd targeted a 5 miler I would be upset. I know I can run faster.

11 year old - jeez, even worse !! ;-)

The wee 9 year old needs to learn pacing and not go off with his older brother ;-) I didn't overtake him until after 1 mile, and see he finished in over 43 mins - ouch !!

Well done curly, own, Lou and Gus.

Missed out today by about 46 seconds going by my timing. Tried to take it easy/steady for the first 3 laps of 4 then pick up the pace. Went ok till I hit the long hill and felt drained but happy enough considering. Now time to put the 26.2 behind me till VLM.

Good luck tomorrow Joe.

One of the 11 year olds went with his dad in the first mile who promptly suggested that he back off! He finished in about 33 minutes. There are some great kids coming through and best part of today was seeing our club have it's biggest field at a race in years!

Great casual 3:15 there BS! Again.

21 @ 7:43 for me today to round out a 67 mile week, my highest of the campaign so far. I'm still in love with the Boosts - took a new pair straight out of the box today with no issues at all. Only did this as I decided to save my other pair for race day as they are a faster colour. Sound logic, yeah?

It just seems natural now to ramp-up the pace / effort at the end of the LR. I guess that's the intention…to get you used to it ahead of the real deal but it's so different to what I've done before , mind you I'm not sure that I could have done it before!

What about race weight folks. How far our do folks aim to get there? I've lost about 1 kg so far in the campaign and wondering if I've peaked too early?!

WW - the 80% MHR training in theory targets fat only, rather than burning both your sugars and fat, so I'm hoping that will work. It's coming down ever-so slightly.

Right 20.4 miles today 2.49.30, average heart 147 (so 82%). Between miles 12 and 17 a P&D style marathon pace splits 7.26 / 7.22 / 7.13 / 7.17 / 7.27 - HR stats for that bit only

155(86%)/153(85%)/159(88%)/159(88%)/158(87.5%)
This was on the flat with a bit of down in 2nd mile. OK they don't tell you too much, seems to show that if I take it up 10 seconds a mile, I'm going from fairly good readings to ones that perhaps aren't sustainable (anyone care to comment?) 4 miles out of the 5 I felt great on (and I mean it, better than running 80%MHR at 8.30 pace), last mile of the MP workout, I started struggling definitely, and was glad to finish it. But in general really pleased with a positive run, I think plenty there to build on.
