Read your blog Clare. You're quite hard on yourself. For your next marathon target to beat your PB, hope for much better weather conditions and to not be battling a virus.

I don't think being hard on yourself is always a bad thing, I think it feels better than having everyone go after a bad run, "what a great time" when you don't feel it yourself (talking from experience), even though everyone's only being nice. Being harsh helps you process/focus on how to avoid the same happening again, and that can be very positive and powerful. Even if my current solution is "right I'm not bloody attempting sub 3.15 again!"

Clare - I remember BR saying in the past that he'll sleep when he's dead. I'll recover when I am dead!! Hate it. In my eyes it's just time getting fat!

Almost laughed out loud on the tube - which doesn't seem the done thing in the door south ;)

I liked your blog Clare - I think many of this ( particularly the girls anyway!) on this thread are running to progress to get faster and a marathon where that doesn't happen when all the indicators are that it should is, in my eyes, a failing. I would and have written critical reviews of badly run races. Great learning and reflection in future but you have to be also mindful of what your next move is. Part of recovery is physical and part of it is mental and I know since London this year I haven't really been in the racing mindset and have just festered for months. This is multifactorial but in the last few weeks I've changed approach and moving on.

Steps back allow steps forward too.

P.s. Not meaning to describe your race as failing or badly run but I'm sure you understood that Clare

It's all about PB's isn't it? Failed to get a PB then enter another race and get a PB there.

Unfortunately for marathons that usually means 6 months till next attempt.

dan.
Taper madness setting in here, I wondered when it would arrive! Just started feeling peaky and panicking that I have tapered too hard and not done enough miles. All stupid of course, I have done more miles than ever before and more long runs, just not so much recently. Last run tomorrow just 4 or 5 steady miles then that is it. Heading over to Leicester Saturday afternoon after the xc (no I'm not Running it ;-))

Good luck Stoosh, smash it :-)
