BS
Well done Westley despite not getting your goal.

Tough luck Peacey but as others have said you made the right decision hopefully avoid further injury.

I had a parkrun of 18:31 yesterday ahead of a 10k race today and when I went through the 5k split today I was on 18:36 finished with 37:34 knew I would slow a bit but came in ahead of my target.

Brave decision peacey.

Disappointing 1:28ish for me today at the putney & Fulham half. Nice low key event but with lots of twists and turns to break your rhythm. About 10th place though.

Any more Abingdon news yet?

Great times BS, and backing them up on consecutative days! And you can't be disappointed with 10th OWM. Well done both :-)

I've seen another Abingdon result on Facebook :-(

Peacey :-( so sorry for you but I definitely sounds like the right thing to do. Be kind to yourself, recover well and hopefully you'll be back at it soon thanks to stopping when you did rather than risking a longer layoff.

I am sorry to say I well and truly ballsed it up. Set out at sub-3:15 pace, dropped it back after a few miles as was working too hard but combination of strong headwinds, warm temperature and quads trying to cramp from 10 miles meant I was gritting my teeth and grinding it out from early on. Some slight pacing errors of judgement early on, but I had to try and I think my quads would have done that regardless. I went through halfway at 1:37:05 (having slowed by then) and finished in 3:26:0X. Every time I tried to inject some pace my legs screamed at me, and my heart rate was too high from very early on. The temptation to DNF at 15 when we went back through the town was immense and I was walking water stations from 20 onwards to make sure I drank properly. Peacey if I'd seen you at 17, I may well have joined you!

I am done with marathons for now, that's 3 where I haven't got the ambitious time I was aiming for and the last 2 have cost me a PB. If I ever do another, I will be setting out at PB pace and no faster. Marathons are unforgiving beasts.

Gutted as my training, prep and build-up all suggested better than this. I also stuck to my fuelling / hydration strategy today (almost gagged a gel at 20m), so I don't think fuelling was an issue. I will blog at some point as I try to get my head around this.

*back to lurk mode in here and will stay in the 3:30 thread where I belong!*

Bad luck Clare. Conditions were far from ideal today. Strong winds are so tough to run in. Very well done for toughing it out.

Oh Clare, so sorry to read this :-( you looked like you were working hard at 17m, still a great time though as conditions were very unseasonal, that won't of helped. Take some time out, I'm doing the same. Now isn't the time for decisions but the time to recover and reflect. It'll happen for you.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, all taken on board.

Clare I am gutted for you. Sounds like you got tough conditions and that was a big factor in the outcome. I think you can learn from this and come back stronger. My sister in law ran 3x 3:26ish and was pretty disillusioned but has now put consecutive3:18s on the board. The marathon can be tough at times.
