That's tricky Bazo - your best bet is to run at the crack of dawn on Sunday and then sleep through the BBQ. That way your making your point emphatically and not missing your run.

Would need to be very early to be back in time for the CG marathon...just as well I had decided not to go and watch it in person...

Ive managed to re-shuffle my plan, means I may not be my freshest for the tempo miles but all in the spirit of harmony and in recognition that my hobby/obsession already has an impact on family life :-(

Ditch the family bazo and concentrate on the important things in life ;-)

Good to hear from you Runa and good to see your still running even if it's not marathons. I may be joining you after my Autumn mara although will be through choice with me!!

Clare - ditch the garmin for the track 5000 and use a stop watch, much easier and less distracting!!

Clare - and others - depending what garmin you have, a foot pod might be worth thinking about (perhaps not for your race, but in general). I find mine to be very accurate, gives good instantaneous pace (much better than the GPS).

I thought you meant "ditch the family" was the sensible suggestion Bazo. I was worried for a mo there!

My missus is the same, I'lll ask about which weekend she has a horse event and what time, because if I'm supposed to go to something I need to know how/when to rejig my long run. She says she'll no the time of the weekend "on Thu or Fri". WTF?! How is that "planning"?!

6 with 3 at tempo/HMP tonight - I managed 3.13 in 20:38. I'm actually quite happy with that (as it was on the canal, including dodges for bikes, dogs and a turn around point (and possibly lost signal too - it said 8:30 current pace at one point!) This might have been MP last year, but now it's def HMP or poss even 10K pace! :-) G

Can fully sympathise on the family juggling act piece :-/

Well the track 5000m went as well as I could have hoped on the furness that was our track this evening - managed a fairly consistent paced 19:50 which for my first track 5k and with a lot of recent miles in my legs (including a 19:41 parkrun at the weekend) I am pleased with it. I did wear the garmin but didn't take that much notice of it. Was so hot tonight and 12.5 laps felt like a marathon! It did however wreck my legs sufficiently that I couldn't crack a sub-6 mile an hour later, managed 6:01 :-( can't really complain, the lactic in my legs took the first lap of the mile to settle and I managed to get into more of a rhythm after that. If the mile had been first (as it was last year) I think I could have dipped a fair bit under 6 mins.

Thanks both. And no Lou, not really awesome at all compared to the race times, paces and training that most people on here bash out. But i do the best i can with the time i have (back to that family balancing act again ;-))X
