Blimey. Training for a 100 miler will make you strong as hell but not I imagine very speedy, so yes, recover from that, a bit of short stuff and you'll be flying under 3:30

and I've just stalked santababy - looks like you get plenty of form with ultras and really good progression with your marathon/HM time so just carry on as you are and you'll be under 3:30 no problem

Agree Claypole - nothing beginning with a 10, especially uphill, I'd call that a "controlled fade"

Unless I'm mistaken that's also Santababy's best ever WAVA. There can't be many people who race all distances and have their best WAVA at marathon distance. |

it is indeed, shows how poor my shorter races are - lack speed work. Going to forego my morning run for track session once recovered from SDW and see what that brings

FR, it started with a 3, but at one point I was getting worried it wouldn't! I'm still thinking about it and trying to work out what happened, and why. I expected not to be near my PB - I missed 2 months ill/injured and my training has been focussed on off-road and hills for L100. However I still expected to be around 3:30, with a not unreasonable chance of 3:2x). Saturday's parkrun felt like a jog at 8s helping pace someone round, but come race day they were like hen's teeth. I was even slower than Manc where I walked probably 3 of the last 8 miles. At the moment the only positive I can come up with is that I didn't give in to the will to walk (other than my wee after 0.5 miles as I was fed up with the crush, for a chat with Mick n. Phil, to pick up and replace my HRM strap that fell off about 16 miles, and when I went down with cramp at 25.5 miles) (just realised where a couple of minutes may have disappeared 😂) Unless Windermere is significantly better (unlikely given the focus is now on the L100), it's going to be my first year missing the wall of fame for quite a while Perhaps I'm just getting to old for it! |

Glad you at least got a crack at it Flanker and the place didn't go to waste. Sure it'll come back. Well done Santa and Sunburnt. Great times for both of you. |

CStar, yep, me too. I'd have hated watching everybody else run even more And I'm sure there are some good lessons to learn from it. I'm just struggling to work out what they are at the moment (other than shift some lard!). |

as I have said elsewhere, Flanks, with a BMI of 27+, I am dense. So, I also have some lard to shift. Don't be too hard on yourself, we know the marathon is a fickle mistress. Santababy, welcome. Sunburnt, 3.41 is a very fine debut. I debuted in 2009 with a 3.55 and have only gone faster once since. I knew nothing in 2009 and am convinced ignorance is key!! |
