Glad that you are not too disappointed Clare. Plenty of people struggled today and it looked on strava like a solid effort. Puts you in a great position to attack Berlin, hopefully conditions are as fast as in previous years

What Uyuni said. Well done Clare, but you know as well as anyone Goofee, marathons are pretty unforgiving of any injury.

3:33:50 for me, so not quite in the sidebar, but taking 25 mins off my old PB more than makes up for it. Sub 3:30 was always going to be a real stretch, so v v happy with getting close. Thanks to everyone on here for the support, advice reassurance and guidance. It's been invaluable :-)

Wow cstar that's brilliant well done! Sorry the injury flaired up Goofee, how frustrating.

Ive just had a dose of perspective from my coach on our club page...

"Clare, the time was irrelevant today in the grand scheme of things. In November last year you couldn't ride a static bike without being in pain and the last 6 months has been a real journey of bringing you back to where you deserve to be through NKT therapy, strength and stability training and a programme that wasn't going to break you through meaningless runs. We targeted every session and you hit every mark, as a coach I can't ask for any more from an athlete. It was a schedule you found tough, it was mentally draining because it was a different way of working, but in my mind it worked, not because of how you performed today (and if the weather in London was anything like it was in Snowdonia then I know you all had a tough time with the heat), but because of the position this now leaves you in. Your muscles are firing properly and in the correct order, that pesky left foot does what it's supposed too 😜 and you gain more momentum from your arms. That's a hell of a lot to go through/correct in 6 months and ordinarily you wouldn't do those corrections in the middle of a training plan but time was against us and you pulled it off. This isn't about where you were in comparison to Brighton, because Brighton came off the back of Chester. YOU COULDN'T RIDE A STATIC BIKE IN NOVEMBER!! Be proud of what you achieved today and know you're in a much stronger place heading towards Berlin"

Well that's spooky. The fetch predictor based on actual shows that for 1.36.16 hm which I did in March, marathon time is 3.30.58 for women. So I beat that by all of 13 seconds!!

In other news "in the final 7.2k, you passed 397 runners and were passed by 122". Given I didn't put my foot down until more like the last 2.2, I'm happy with that!

Yes, the Fetch calculator is spookily accurate based on my most recent half. Only 22 seconds out 😳

I don't think the fetch predictor would have predicted my epic failure. Starting in pen 6 didn't help, but I doubt made much difference in the long term. The only blessing is that it wasn't in my name, and so will be lost in the annals of history :)
