That makes sense why my results show me as passing 4228 runners in the first 30k then...thought that was strangely high!!!

So is the FGFA better than the Green start pen1? I got GFA using a 3:10:01 and had predicted 3hrs even.

I was in Green Pen 1. I am not sure how they could stop anyone going into pen 1 regardless of what pen they had on their number. It was pretty solid in Green, although only took 1 min to cross mat and I got up to speed in mile 1. Few minor bottlenecks but nothing at all to worry about.

I had Green pen #2, although 1 and 2 are a shared pen so it was pointless having that distinction anyway. Reasonably near the front with Baz and Oranj, 13sec to cross line. I don't think the route, or even the first 200m or so to get past the celebs, are a big problem really. I just preferred the more space, more time, more portaloos, which I see to recall from the FGFA.... |

I wonder what the exact criteria is when deciding on whether you are a FGFA or green GFA? I might email them and see if I get a response to satisfy my curiosity.

19 sec to cross the line for me but it was impossible to hit goal pace until maybe 1km in. Not without a huge amount of weaving anyway

what are peoples choices for a PB friendly HM as part of London buildup? I tried Bath this year and its a big event with more undulations than the billing suggests. I hear similar about Reading and what I've heard about Silverstone puts me off.

Round my way (south London/Kent/Sussex) Paddock Wood is a good one nayan - might work for you as a Serpie. Flat, nice countryside, not too crowded, lots of good runners Liverpool's the same weekend as Edinburgh if anyone fancies joining me for a second spring mara. Feeling lonely on me tod now everyone's done London! Also have missed a few key sessions with time constraints and a hamstring strain so I'm worried sub-3 is slipping away from me a bit |

I did Silverstone last year and enjoyed it. Might do it again next year instead of Bath.

I won't do Silverstone again. Expensive. Boring. Long and time consuming getting in and out of the car park. I was quicker over the line every time from the green start than from pen 1 of the FGFA on Sunday. I think the delay in us setting off meant that the congestion was worse than it might otherwise have been. As for age determining green or FGFA - I was promoted at 50 so I'd guess it isn't that. |
