Postie, I thought you had a real shot at sub 2:50 off your training, you increased the miles and your average pace continually reduced, you tick all the boxes for sure.

You mentioned it was just a lack of energy from 17 miles that cost you, does that suggest it's more a fuelling strategy tweak needed than training load?

I should have paced the early downhill miles a bit easier to conserve energy for later on. I wouldn't have lost much time doing that so that was a mistake on my part. I've run my best marathons starting relatively conservatively which I didn't do on Sunday. I wouldn't change my fueling strategy as it was the same one I've employed before successfully.

Pacing correctly is everything and I let myself get carried away a bit because of my great block of training. I won't be making that mistake at Birmingham on October 15.

Ah ok, well if you carry on training the ay you have been, it happy in Brum then I'm sure!

I realised this morning I have qualified for Berlin, so that has changed my plans somewhat, I feel like I should carry on with the running as the focus till Sep 18 now and see what I can do there.

I was getting a bit sad thinking of doing less running (and more cycling/swimming) but this has cheered me up no end!

I was very taken with the book that speedy rob linked to, both the reviews and some looking inside. So I have bought it and plan to add some exercises to my "leisure" running over the summer. Plyometric stuff.

Also recognised some of the exercises as what we do as warm-up in our club interval session :-)

And I'm working on encouraging a v quick female vet to get back into it, after injury she has mostly done shorter off-road stuff for the last few years. She had already checked out the VLM vet results...

I see London GFA times are the same for 2018, but does anyone know how quick you have to be to get on the Fast GFA start?

Asking for a friend ;-)

You'll definitely be fine.

And I shall have to find out if 3:04 is enough or not, because I didn't prefer my first excursion to Green, and yearn to get back to the comforting bosom of FGFA.

I got in the FGFA pen on a slightly slower time than you last year Oranj so you should get in there. Might also have to do with your predicted finishing time which they make you put 10 months in advance.
