Did the "long run" this morning, a bit rubbish in the wind and rain. Pleased with myself for not binning it entirely, though I might have got more out of a treadmill run. Cut it a bit short as I was struggling after a hard bike ride yesterday and didn't want to get caught out too far from home. Hope to get back on with some good running this week.

jenno that's an impressive MP.

jenno, well done. 6:43mm is a great time if the effort was in right place...and 12 miles of it as well. I did 16 with 1 at MP on Saturday and the MP came out about 6:47/8mm but the HR effort was just a few BPM higher than ideal

jda - long runs in these crap conditions I think are key factors when race day comes around. Getting it done is key thing and nothing wrong with cutting it a bit short

big MP session there Baz, hope you didn't struggle with the 1!

JDA, FWIW, I was awful on my LR yesterday. Didn't enjoy it at all, I think that makes a big difference. 2 1/2 hours seems a long time when you are not enjoying it....

WW - For being a bad long run you certainly kept the pace up.

another runner with a wet and windy long run yesterday. soo cold at the end with everything drenched. I went from cold to warm...back to cold after a shower. 65 miles for the week tho, disappointing. hoping for a marked improvement with this week. still, only now in the 3rd week of marathon training. of 18.

At Windsor, that HM was hilly and I didn't feel right (I got tired doing some strides) and it was 3 weeks after an ultra and 4 weeks after a 10km PB. Almost all of my training was hilly ultra focused too so no LTs just very slow back to back long runs. So yeah my PB is probably due an official spanking. I've only been running 3 years and still getting PBs at every single race too so I think I'm still on that nice early phase where I'm still improving by just keeping running.

Baz I think my effort was within pfitzingers guidelines. HR was 84% HRR, 87% max. Nearer the top end of the Windows but it felt OK and I feel fine today.

I've started doing some basic strength stuff now too and looking forward to a HM tune up in a couple of weeks. Not going to hammer it, just set off at my current PB pace and maybe give it some beans near the end.

Was looking forward to the recovery week this week but with this weather it might be a long slog of a week anyway

You're right Chris (and Baz), that run looks fine on 'paper'. Amazing how the download lies!

Got a little recovery in at lunchtime and it was better than expected so hopefully all back to norm tomorrow.

Training going ok here, but I have had to adapt and reduce mileage, it appears age really does get to you after a while. 9 at 6.15 pace on Saturday followed by a 20 miler at WW pace on Sunday, (unlike him I was delighted with this!)

Notice a lot of people on here follow training plans, seem to be quite high mileage ones and also seem to have a lot of marathon pace miles involved. Wondering from those who have already achieved sub 3 what kind of mileage you did per week and also percentage of MP miles. Thoughts or opinions on unconventional training welcomed.
