Yep it's Operation: London, England. Even when chatting at the finish and Trafalgar Square I still somehow get first place in Chandos. Can only presume the faster ones are downstairs with the RW bunch!

Missed my half marathon race last sunday with a heavy cold.

So I was thinking of running a half marathon time trial on a local track on my own - just blast out 53 laps or so ;-)

Anyone done this before? I know tracks are usually used for interval sessions, but what do you think about a longer time trial on a track? I feel it would give me a realistic indication of what I should be aiming for at VLM.

Assuming you have some idea of likely/target pace, why not just run a workout with a large MP section and see how you get on? That won't have the same stress as a flat-out race but I don't think I could replicate race performance solo anyway. I did a couple of runs of 25k at MP (plus w/u + w/d) which is probably better training for the marathon than a HM race would have been - though I might have done a race had one been handy for me. A disappointing solo HM won't do you any favours IMO.

Less than a week to go now, just finished the last weekend of back to back running, will take things pretty gently from here on in. Parkrun was unexpectedly cancelled yesterday so after the 1h easy run there I had to do my own fast 5k which felt good, and another 8k this morning to stretch my legs and test out my race shoes again.

Just checked the weather forecast and next sunday is 18 !!!! degrees. Might as well not turn up if that happens. Oh well, I can always jog round and try to enjoy the event. Won't be that bad at 9am of course, but the last hour might be tough.

Thats the trouble with spring marathons, all of the training is done when its cold but the race comes just as the weather starts to warm up.

For that reason I prefer autumn marathons, you train when its hot but race when its cooled down a bit.

Seem to have picked up a bit of a sore hip - perhaps from running downhill too hard last week. I've since done an hour plus on it with no real probs but a marathon is a different kettle of fish. Ibuprofen and swimming/cycling should see me right by the weekend.

Hope your hip recovers JDA. Sounds like a few easy days with cross training will do the trick.

Everyone is in count-down mode for marathons it seems - surprised no-one from the thread is going to be at Brighton this weekend though?

I've recovered from my cold / man-flu, and also from the mad idea of running a full-on track half Marathon - thanks JDA ;-)

Starting to think about pacing for London - anyone know which start the sub 3 pacers set off from? I'm at Red GFA.

I'm down for Brighton, but probably not a sub 3 attempt unless I feel good on the day.

Idlewild, methinks the pacers are all in the mass start. But you'll spot them sometime after the 3 starts converge.
