agreement that he's right. Sub 3 is not more difficult than sub 18 5k,or sub 80 half, unless you insist that all races can be run from 3 days training a week, never running further than 13 miles and your other sessions being hard intervals.

Just ignore him, it's working on other threads. No, there's no "don't show posts from this individual option" in here. But... Fetch has his home address, and some of the folk on the "Weight Training" thread are pretty hard... just sayin' ;-) (winky, just in case anyone doesn't that I'm joking. Sheesh!)

Some great progress being made towards 3 by some "mostly fast runs" approach on 3:15 thread - tempo, intervals, MP + long run every week, not much total mileage and not much "easy" mileage. Interestingly different approach. :-) G

I have ran 5 Marathons over the last 18 months with second half fades of 10 to 28 mins. 3:04 to 3:32
The marathon just gets hard somewhere between 18 to 22 miles and I lose stacks of time.

I do not carbo load, I do not eat bread, pasta, rice. Fruits and vegetables are my main source of carbs.

The gels give me stomach issues every time, sugar over load!

You talking about me HappyG ;-)

Hoping that my progress to sub-3 finishes on Sunday but we'll see, not sure how I will react to a quick turnaround on marathon attempts

Reintroducing an old subject, do people think it's realistic to run two good marathons a fortnight apart? Actually 13 days. I have already entered Vienna on the 12th and now discover the 3 peaks is the 25th. That is local to me and obviously an event I'd love to do some time, not quite a marathon distance but the hills more than make up for that. Vienna would be a great PB opportunity for the marathon though. Will I die if I attempt the 3P so soon after? I've not got a history of fast rurnaround and if I take the marathon hard it will probably wipe me out for a week or more.

jdarun, if you are after a PB at Vienna with then only two weeks between and admittedly not a good history of fast turnaround then maybe a good marathon on a hilly course will be hard to achieve? But then I suppose it depends on what is classed as a good marathon and how much prep you have put in for running two in close succession as opposed to the one? Why not run the 3 peaks anyway and if you don't perform as well as you hoped at least you will be in a better position to nail it the year after having knowledge of the course?

I guess I could just do it (3P) to take part...but it might be tough just to get round. If it was half as long...

Alternatively, I could run a half at vienna (a specific option). But I don't really want to do that, it was my sub-3 target (before I surprised myself and got that at Chesterfield) and would be a lovely course to go fast on. I'm already committed to visiting for business, the chance to race there is a great coincidence. Besides, I'm sure at 80kg I'm much better suited to flat road runs than hills!

Ive done 3:04 and 3:06 4 weeks apart, both were sub 3 attempts, but the 2nd was undone by the effort in the first. I would say that it is a tall order, but only you will know how well you recover

I just did the dumbest ting ever this evening - I tore my back thigh muscle really bad carrying a treadmill up the stairs to my house.

Have felt a little pain in that area for the last two sessions - and I was really stiff there the day after doing intervals last time so I had decided to shut it down until after the weekend (one weeks rest).

Now it was a real big snap though so it must be pretty bad. Iced it, but since I am new to this, I have no idea how long that will set me back for. Just hope it does not mean my chances at the 3h marathon attempt will be lost. I also have three ski trips to the alps and one to the US coming up so really worried about those now.

Skiing in Norway this weekend as well, and I can't back out of that since I am helping a friend on that trip, can't imagine that I will be able to hit the slopes though. If I can't walk tomorrow I will have to back out though I guess.

Anyway, the treadmill is mostly for my lady, but what's the verdict from the expertise in here, is it OK for us Scandinavians that have to put up with months with a lot of snow to practice on a treadmill - or does it do more harm than good destroying your gait and such?
