hmmm... just read the runners' world article baz posted above. Very interesting - based on that, perhaps I should be looking to track sessions for long runs rather than short intervals!

Re the runnersworld article - really good read, but there's no way I could do long runs on a track! I'd get dizzy.

Great news Lou and fantastic race from you today! Don't lose too much weight - you look fab already.

I did all my intervals on roads in build up to VLM, some by myself, some where I dragged club mates along. No coached interval sessions at our club (unless I coach them! ) It is much easier/more productive hitting your interval paces when running with others, and on a track is easier to control too. However, if you can do you intervals by yourself, in winter and on unlit, potholed roads, you're double hard and you get a free, guaranteed sub 3 hour marathon! ;-)

I did 10 miles at MP this year actually at the track in Brum in the lead up to VLM..and perversely really enjoyed it, I thought after I could have done another 5 easily. Next time I do a marathon, I'll do a few of these for sure. Something about running on a track I really like. Just change direction every few miles.

Or like the 24 hour track nutters like hellen and Rossy, just change direction every 4 hours. And go for over 100 miles! -) G

VLM entered :) don't think I've been in better shape in a November in recent years so hoping for a good build up - work will be main issue that could once again disrupt training. But when I'm running happy everything else in the world seems to be better :)

Mile reps tonight - our coach reckons these are the hardest session we do for us marathon runners as we are not used to running at that pace. Found them tough on tired glutes today - new deadlift PB this morning (50kg) but need to see if I can time my weight sessions better - think weights and track on same day may be tricky in marathon training.

Wow Lou - 6 x mile reps is brilliant - I had a wee peek at your times and you are really shifting!!

Looking to start training for Manchester marathon and a PB attempt. Last marathon followed Pfitzinger and Douglas 70 to 85 miles plan in 2012/2013. But struggled to make the time for mileage most weeks and skipped too many of the tempo/quick sessions. Thinking of trying the 55 to 70 mile plan as more realistic for me in terms of time. Any views on these plans? I had previously follow Hanson Brothers plan(2011/2012) for my first road marathon.
