Wow, fantastic time TG. Sorry to hear things didn't go to plan for Stoosh today, but he'll be back with more awesome performances in the future - and I don't just mean the beer quantity in Frankfurt this weekend! :-) G

STOOSH
Indeed :)G - sunday didn't really pan out the way i'd hoped in Frankfurt. Finished in 3.03 after going through halfway in just under 1.25 as planned but unfortunately my legs just didn't have it in them to maintain the pace to the end.

Well done TG - That's a fantastic pb, enjoy the beers and pastries:)

So sorry to hear about your race not going to plan Stoosh. Still plenty gained from all your hard training though - time to plan your next one now.

Chris
That sounds tough Stoosh, any thoughts on why the pace dropped off in the second half?

just back from frankfurt having shared a room with stoosh and others!

2:42:38 , after a 1:18:06 first half, resulting in a 10k death march from 32k. ended up 14 seconds slower than my london time , so consistent if nothing else. need to re-assess before going into another marathon campaing, but more eager than ever to get the sub 2:40 there. need to get skinny.

Baz, fantastic time, even if not quite what you were looking for. Interesting to see that even the top guys like yourself can have that same struggle from 18 miles. Any idea the cause? Just went out a bit too quick? Or lack of long runs, or long runs at pace etc? Apologies if these are wrong questions - don't know if it's different down at 2:40 than at 2:55 sort of level? There may be other factors that I'm not aware of?

Anyway, well done in any case and rest up now, but sounds like you've got great motivation to come back for even better times. :-) G

HG - i think for me it was the lack of long runs at pace. i was fine until 20 then the legs didnt cope with the pace. Having two half marathons at 1:14\1:13 3 weeks out didnt help. For me i'm looking to up the mileage more, include more Vo2 max sessions, and more sessions to 20-24 miles, ii might go over distance this time. RaceJase included a 30 miler, then a 26 miler (steady, nothing crazy) and he said that has helped him a great deal. It makes sense going over a few times, how often do you go over distance for training with 10k or HM? why not for a Marathon.

I also think diet plays a big part. Not having a great diet i can see why i hit the wall. energy levels must have been sapped aswell.

Anyway, 2 weeks rest then work out what needs done for VMLM15. Im off for chocolate :)

You mean you're off for a low-GI, long term burn fuel, with appropriate mineral and protein content for muscle rebuild baz?! ;-)
