Thanks LouLou,
Manchester is a bit big for me, I prefer small local races. I;m now considering Shakespeare Marathon.
Best wishes

I don't think you'd find Mcr 'big' at the front at all Steeple. Loads of space and a super-flat / fast (short?) course. Have heard that Stratford is quite tough by comparison.

dan.
Manchester is good, wasn't busy at 7:10 pace, so even quieter ahead of that, very flat and fast

*delurks* I ran both Manchester and Shakespeare this year. MCR is definitely flatter and quicker, but also larger. However, it's worth noting that Shakespeare is ran at the same time as a half marathon, so I'd guess they'd both be "as busy" as each other at sub3 (& sub90 HM) pace for the first half, but Shakespeare would be significantly quieter in the second half. But even then I don't think Shakespeare is small enough to be classed as a small/local race.

As for it being short, I know many measured it short (me included), but as 1st & 2nd used their time to qualify for the English marathon squad for the European Championships and Welsh marathon team for the Commonwealth Games respectively it must be correct as I can't imagine either country would have allowed that if the course had been short, especially as Andi Jones was only a few seconds inside the standard. *relurks*

Is there an award for closest shave? As I posted on the 3:15 thread, I just did 2:59:44 (my time, the event website is down) at Chesterfield. Luckily I wasn't really aiming for sub-3 (at least not until near the end) or it might have been a bit stressful! Conditions were perfect of course, and the event was very good especially considering it was the first time.

Now I have to think about how to approach vienna next spring, which was going to be my real sub3 target. But there's some serious eating and resting to work on first!
