Still recovering from the Thunder Run but marathon training stater this week. Will be a 105+ mile week. Legs felt rough as hell until today but managed a decent 75 minutes with 8 x 3 minutes tempo / 3 minutes steady (roughly 5.40/mile and 6.40/mile) with Hayley Munn tonight (who has run a fair bit quicker in the marathon than me). Find running thee threshold sessions with other makes them genuinely feel like tempo efforts as opposed to slogs. Funny what a bit of company will do. 10km at HM effort on Saturday and a first nice long run on Sunday. Starting to get focused again!

TC - I love to read about your sessions. Always eye watering paces in there. I've had a quiet July, as always. The loss of routine over the school holidays seems to outweigh the extra time I have to fit training in. A couple of light months each year is probably worthwhile though. I'm going to target an autumn half instead of a full now. I can get a better consistency of training through the winter for a spring marathon, so rather than run an 'alright' marathon in Sept/Oct then have to recover and rebuild etc, I think I'll just start putting miles in from August and build up for a PB attempt in April. I'm pretty pleased with how my fitness has faired despite the lower miles. It feels like it's only endurance that's missing as I did an easy 7 miles at 7:20 pace there and that's not far off the pace for my easy efforts from April when I peaked for Manchester. |

Good training Tom and good that you've found what you should target Davie. I've made a big step this month in regaining the desire to train. My aim is to build during August and reassess early September whether Abingdon is a go-er. I've got a great rota with only a couple of weekends between now and the marathon so it sets me up for a decent crack. Part of me only wants to run sub 3 but a seasons best would be an achievement I guess. |

Blessing Okagbare is my new hero!!! Have spent 3 out of 4nights at the atheltics at Hampden this week and really loved seeing live sport. It's also reminded me that my heart belongs in Glasgow - 12 months left further North! Tickets for athletics tomorrow night then might watch cycling road race on Sunday (integrated into my 20miler ) aiming to race at the Glasgow half - would be 2 weeks out from Abingdon but reckon a half PB would be more realistic than a marathon PB this year. |

Hi all. I had mentioned on this thread a while back that I would be looking forward to pacing those chasing 3 hours at Chester. Unfortunately, due to injury, I have had to pull out. Been diagnosed with Gilmores Groin, and surgery booked for September, so would probably not recover in time for an October marathon. Will still be keeping an eye on how everyone fares during the Autumn Season, Good luck all! |

Not great Psimon, hope you recover quickly after the operation. Not a condition Ive heard of before but spotted on the 2.45 thread that you were struggling. Unfortunately I'm out of Chester as well. Achilles troubles that I've been ignoring for the last 2 years got to the point that all runs were painful all the time. 4th physio session today and he says I can start gentle running again but it'll be a while before I'm knocking any proper mileage out Enjoying getting out on the bike for now, while the weather is decent Glad to hear you're back in the zone Lou. It's been a while! |

Psi...gutted, I was hoping you would see me home safely in 2:59 - just need to do it on my own I gues.. Tizer, thats tough, Ive had achilles issues 3 times ,usually been 6 weeks out - but that was before I took physio advice and just let it heal. |

Yeah, am a little disappointed too. There will be another 3hr pacer that I am sure will get your round just fine. Tizer, I have suffered from Achilles problems for what seems ages, more so on my right foot rather than my left. I am be able to manage it though as long as I regularly perform eccentric heel drops (at least 3 sets once a day). I read somewhere that Haile G. has had to do the same thing for the last 20 years. |
