Well done FJ, fine running :)

Agree on the sweet stuff, definitely a point where it's hard to stomach more. Saying that, fresh orange slices a few miles from the end yesterday really hit the spot. I've had melon before too, I forget where (UTLD?): that was nice :) Maybe it's just the artificial sweetness of sports drink and jelly babies that gets too much.

I had oranges and melon at glenmore 24 and they really hit the spot but in the main my food choices have been savoury.

Maybe this is why Mountain Fuel works so well? Seems a lot more benign. I used on my FGR earlier in the year, TDS too. A winning formula I'd say.

I've never got to the point of not being able to eat sweet stuff during an event, possibly because the only overnight events I've done have included eating sandwiches, soup and the like right from the start, and I don't use gels and sports drinks much.

Interesting, NE. I keep hearing about this Mountain Fuel - good marketing or an actual decent product?! :) At first I assumed it was actual food, then I saw the ingredients and just assumed it was a slightly different formulated sports drink; now I'm even less sure :) I did spot some sachets this morning, wish I'd picked up a couple to at least try.

I'm imagining Vrap's overnight event is some sort of mobile dinner party :) I'd enter that.

My overnight events have mostly involved me moving so slowly that the likelihood of a roast beef and horseradish sandwich, or a jacket spud and chilli, giving me any backchat was very small indeed. And I work on the principle that "eat more food" is the first line intervention of choice for most problems that arise during a long race.

I have some Mountain Fuel sachets that I got as a spot prize at the Grand Tour of Skiddaw. I haven't tried it yet. I usually just put weak blackcurrant or orange squash in my bottles.

Isn't somebody required to say Tailwind at this point?

great running from everyone here! 24 hour runs on a track were /are ok for me! It's a bit of a mental challenge and best if you have support "crew" if you are against the clock. I had to have reminders to keep my form etc!! And of course it's good to have food waiting and ready. I was lucky in my best one that I had a physio friend supporting me who could check that things were ok...

Yes, it's usually a Tailwind v Mountain Fuel at some point :-)

All I will say is this: MF is a decent product. I've tried nearly every sports drink there is to try and almost exclusively they taste pretty awful after you've been on your feet for 12 hours. I thought the OTE drinks were ace, but on the CCC last year they really made me feel ill. MF is very benign on your stomach, the formula seems to get into your system easily and like other I've been really pleased with it. Combine it with the MF morning fuel and it seems to be a winning formula. The company MD - a Keswick local - recommended to me that I take in one of their recovery drinks halfway round the TDS and I have to say that this really helped, I've never considered using a recovery product DURING a race. So yes, MF is as good as people say - though I think Tailwind has an equally strong support set :-)

do you use it with solid food as well? I always find that my stomach needs som e'real' food in it, not just fluid, else I get a real queasy feeling.
