Too Much Water
By my reckoning 5 out of the first 7 into CP1 on the Thames Ring are now out. Higher drop out % than the overall dropout rate.

GeeeM
Looks like you kids had some fun tracking us on Dragon's Back last week :-)

It was, the most hardcore, tough event I've ever done. Days 1 and 2 were brutal - serious navigation, scrambling, climbing and exposure in Snowdonia. I knew I'd struggle with Day 1 on the 3000's but just managed to get through inside cutoff.

6 hours later it was back at it on what was a harder day, I just managed to get through halfway before cutoff but lost it on the Rhinogs and got back an hour after cutoff.

That meant no trophy or official place, but I could continue the adventure by taking a half day on Day 3, so I did half days on 3/4 and then the full Day 5 which was mental weather in the Brecons. A paltry 156 miles / 42,000' of ascent in total for me :-)

An amazing event, there will be a full blog to follow once I manage to stay awake for longer than 10 minutes!

Cheers, in a word "no"! I love the event, and the people but Days 1&2 are not for me - I don't like that scrambly technical exposure and terrain. Maybe for a day out, but not in race conditions.

I will definitely be putting my name down to marshal in 2017 :-)

Lol at "give it a couple of days..." Well done GeeeM, that sounds bonkers though. Well, this is me checking out of ultras now. I've done 8: Devil 42 (5 years ago), then in build up to West Highland Way: Speyside 36, Glenogle 32, Dee 33, Fling 53, Glenmore 24 (hr - 105 miles), G2E 55 and WHW 95 last weekend.

And that's quite enough for me. You are all mad, and amazing. It's a different sport, esp as you get up to 100 miles and I'm sure different again when you go to the 150 and 200 and beyond or the 10,000 metres and beyond or multi day or extreme heat, cold, sand or snow. But no more for me. I'm off to the happy world or short trails, road half and other such running normality. It's been a blast, thanks Ultra Nutters! :-) G

Awesome effort GeeeM. Good on you for continuing after getting timed out. You have to try again :)

A few months ago I considered trying to get a last minute place in the Dragon's back (as my other race looked in doubt).

I emailed a mate who I respect a lot and asked what he thought. He pretty much said "fuck right off with that idea, you won't finish". He was absolutely right. I reckon this is the one race in the UK I could not complete at them moment, it looks really brutal and needs some very specific scrambling training and a huge amount of hill work.

I will aim to give this a crack next time. Scenery looked stunning.
