Thanks HappyG :) Yeah monkey tag running is all about trying to have fun and hopefully once we get more people, to have meet ups. At the moment we are small and really spread around! Fat ass ultras happen already check out Social Ultra ;) Im a big fan of social runs. The idea that something has to be "official" to "count" just seems so alien. We all love a bit of bling but the cost behind it is getting crazy

Ah, but an official time is fun. And pushing yourself to do something more quickly. It isn't all picnics you know?! ;-)

Someone put me out of my misery. Why do our American cousins call a social ultra a "fat ass" event? I know what it means, but I don't know why? Etymology please! :-) G

I remember listening to a podcast where they said Fat Ass events started as a low-key qualifier to some of the big US 100's. That was back in the days before lotteries etc... Nowerdays they're more of a social event...
Why Fat Ass? I'll go with the previous explanation :-)

Or the skinny guys and gals are all racing, while the rest of us fat asses are just doing social runs? Hmmm. Not sure I like that implication! No matter how true it may be! :-) G
