Too Much Water
Is it an organised event? I thought it was that bloke who wears a chicken costume all the time doing it on his tod? I've read the blog of the fella who did it unsupported and it was pretty grim reading. Yes he did it, but at quite considerable physical and mental cost and I seem to recall he was quite an experienced fell runner who knew what he was about. What Velociraptor says is the pragmatic truth, not the romantic ideal. |

No I've never done a multi day before but I'm looking at possibles to try late half of next year. I have considered logistics and barring life emergencies I should be able to figure most of it out. I think though that, as I probably knew deep down anyway, that the step may just be too big to achieve in that time period. Maybe 2017. I think I might try and build up my experience as though I were going for it though. I need a long term goal to get me on the right track and trying events (30+ miles, multi-day, off road) that I might not otherwise attempt. Mx, count me in for Marriotts Way 2015 already Thanks for all your comments |

TMW - I think that was the chap who did the talk I saw. He was pretty destroyed by the attempt! Juddi - I think you see the writing on the wall? Binks advice should especially be taken to heart. There's a chap who's done a lot of the big bucket races and then decided to run across America read that blog for an insight into what 40-ish miles a day on tarmac will do to you.... It's a great ambition, maybe look into doing a section or two? Personally I'd love to do Offas Dyke and The South West Coatal Path - if I can fit them in around Dragon's Back next year then I might come and do a few runs |

Yeah I think I do too. Maybe I should just consider it a 'before I'm 40' target. Right, time to go back to the original plan then. And there's always the chance that Windermere might be the end of hill running for this East Anglian

you've had an attack of realism, but the problem is you've got everyone else thinking "I wonder..." I'd never be interested in JOGLEing on roads, but if the bulk of it could be done on trail then that is far more interesting. Do you have a link? |

Some good advice being meted out here RotJ and I think GeeeM, Binks and V'rap have got it exactly right. To go from novice ultra-distance runner to having the physical and mental fortitude to do JOGLE on foot (whether on or off-road) is a colossal step, I bet you even the likes of Birkinshaw et al would think twice about it

As tempting as that is, that's nearly a year's distance for me in a month At present, I couldn't see myself managing 40 miles or so a day. Maybe in a few years if I ever sort out my race nutrition and gain a better focussed frame of mind. |

Velociraptor
I can see the appeal of a self-supported/small team off-road LEJoG or JoGLE as a once-in-a-lifetime expedition (or as a publicity stunt for whatever reason) - a bit like doing a longitudinal version of the TGO Challenge. But for me the benefits of doing something like that don't outweigh the disruption it would cause and the amount of effort I'd have to put in to overcome even the obstacles between me and the start. The Spine Race would be quite a good tester, wouldn't it? Or the T184? If you look at the details of THOSE events and flinch, an off-road JoGLE probably isn't for you just yet. |
