57.5 Degrees of Pain
Who said running was better than eating pies drinking beer sitting on the couch? I'd far prefer that to 10 miles in the cold and wind. I just realise that it is a bit unsustainable.

Damn right. I love eating pies/chips/pizza and drinking beer/wine. I earn that by running a fuckload. Circle of life

Running long distances isn't any more virtuous than sitting on the couch with a *pie* and a . It's just different

It's not a number for me no, never has been. Impressive times for back to back. I'm more impressed by people knocking out good race times than anyone who's done hundreds of races Look at likes of Paul goblin, he impresses me. Did his first marathon recently, he's not counting |

I'm with you Santa much more impressed by people who do fast marathons or 100 milers or whatever than by those who do x in y days or x in a year. Not saying there is no merit in the latter. Maybe because I am more interested in getting faster times myself than I am in doing lots in a short time then posting I've done x marathons this year on FB?

Everyone likes to get a good time in their race, however I suspect that for a lot it's the participation that's more important. Look at PH here on Fetch. For her, I'm 100% sure that it's taking part and the associated social interaction that is important, her finishing time is secondary. FWIW I'm impressed by those back-to-back times, it tells me that someone has good physiology and biomechanics and perhaps a good pain tolerance. I can't imagine that they'll make a habit of it. |

Ed Ettinghausen appears to do his 100-milers with his wife's support and while also maintaining a normal life otherwise. I admire that more than professional athletes who race twice a year and whine about what a stressful life they have (to be fair, most don't), and when I hear of those feats of a-marathon-a-day-for-ten-years I just think, "Yeah, nice life if you can get it, how's about YOU sponsor ME to go jogging and sit at my desk for a day instead." Which is most begrudging of me, but being a Not Very Nice Person is still, I believe, legal
