DT this is much more your sort of thing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula_Ultra_Fun_Run. I spent a couple of weeks running on the trails round Fish Hoek and Silvermine a few years ago. Great trails with stunning views.

Just popping in to say Hi to GeeeM and just read your blog re: Tahoe 200, sounds awesome and hard work at the same time. Hope you're not missing me too much over in Newport ;)

I'm with you vrap. Really fancy doing a big ultra like comrades on Tarmac but no interest on South Africa so it a bit of a long way to go

South Africa is an amazing country to visit. I wouldn't do Comrades as a 'fly in fly out' but it is a great holiday, which plays well with the wife ;-).I personally prefer my ultras small and trail in nature, but 'm going back for my second crack at Comrades next year. It is just such an amazing event.

The Valley of 1000 Hills that Comrades runs through (and that 1000 is no exaggeration) is beautiful. Admittedly it is a long way to go if a road race of 18000 runners is not your bag but it is an amazing country, as 57.5 said.

Comrades is probably the only road ultra I'll ever (maybe) do. Not so much for the race as the experiences, the same reason I run and enjoy VLM despite everything about it meaning that I should detest it.

I though badwater was now probably not happening again, despite the initial optimism that it would be ok, now that they've had chance to study the wording of the regulations.
