Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Painful but the only way is to ignore the howling or IMHO you are making a rod for your back and he will spend the rest of his life sleeping in your bed!

Sweet dreams.

I think it's probably more than one cup of hard work Haggis, and where is there mention of 'feeling absolutely shattered all the time' :-) But otherwise... it's spot on :-) dog

I can honestly say I dont remember 'feeling absolutely shattered' at any time with our kids...

Even as pups from 8 weeks old they slept fine...

Wanda sleeps fine now, unless people start slamming car doors or setting their alarms off in the middle of the night (for which we are happy for her to bark at) but when we first got her she tended to wake up at first light which was approximately 5am and then bark and grumble for a while. But I guess it's not unreasonable to wake up at first light in Battersea and if you bark there, someone is guaranteed to bark back so it just took a bit of getting used to for her. In fact I expect the chances of a good night's sleep in Battersea are close to zero so when that was what was expected here it took some getting used to......

Do you know much about Wanda's life before Battersea BBL?

Not very much - she was handed in rather than found as a stray and she and her sister were taken to Battersea together but were not given the option of being rehomed together - I suspect that they listened to each other before any humans or perhaps one was bullying the other.

Someone had tried to do their best by her - she was housetrained and had had her jabs but there are a lot of things that we don't know that have come to light as we have owned her. A dislike of men in hats, being very frightened when she hears shouting (even on the TV) - she was in Battersea for just over a month I think and was only about 7 or 8 months old when she arrived there so it wasn't the best start in life for her.

Its hard isn't it to not think about what went before, I would hope they forget but Eb never did.

I'm currently sitting with my back to Bryony eating my dinner and she is yelping and crying and bringing me toys and I'm ignoring her. Clearly been fed at table before and I know I don't want that so I have to carry on ignoring but I feel really cruel! Today has been better so far!

I don't think I'd be any good with a rescue dog, especially a big, strong one. I admire you both for how you cope with the extra challenges.

It's really hard to ignore the attention seeking noises, isn't it? Pulls on the heartstrings.

Our day started really well - the first dry night :-) It's slowly gone downhill from then on, Charlie's been the devil dog this evening. I'm hoping he'll have worn himself out enough to sleep soon....

We sometimes wonder what Jess went through before we homed her. She was so scared that she constantly trembled. The first time she met Geoff, she crawled on her side instead of walking to him. She jumped into the air on her first few walks if there was an unexpected sound and she still, 6 years later, ducks if Geoff moves too quickly, as if she is expecting to be beaten. She was much more scared of men than women. Poor puppy :-(
