I suspect Ernie is too dopey to register top dog. He takes a "hello, you look like fun, let's play" approach to most dogs.

He's a bloody chancer BBL. He is needing a lot of reminders at the moment that he is not a human, and is in fact a dog. He seems to think he should sit, sleep and eat the same as us. We are having to get quite firm. I did kick him off my chair but not until I got a pic of him.

Jet started wandering upstairs in our new home. Thanks to a previous post by DaveA I knew to simply take his collar and move him back downstairs. Jet took the reminder quite well, but he's a dog who, given an inch...

My trainer had a good tip I think; dogs can go somewhere if invited i.e. sofa, upstairs but must also respond when told to get down again. I must admit sometimes the 'telling' has to be firm but its working with Indi. As to my mealtimes; he has always been completely ignored and very rarely does he come near me when I'm eating. On the odd occasion he has come and put a toy on my lap but I don't react and he goes away. First dog I have ever achieved this with and all thanks to my trainer's instructions.

I have made some rookie mistakes. We let him go upstairs, because he gets really distressed if we leave him downstairs. I'm not sure how to change the boundaries now but will have a think. It's not helped by QP being less consistent and spending more time with him at the moment.

I agree about the invitation D, and also that they must get off when told to. We have physically hauled Flossie off when she was younger and still trying it on. Now she knows we are not swayed by pleading eyes and being shown her tummy in submission

Aaawww, LD. That must have been hard to resist. At least Leah snarled at us as we hauled her off which hardens one's resolve to be 'top dog' quite nicely!
