Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Once when I did an ultra in very hot weather and I was at the stage when I couldn't eat anything a little old lady was outside her house with slices of banana which she had soaked in lemon juice. I took one to be polite and it was amazing, shock of the lemon juice I guess. I had a couple more and felt so much better for the last 5 miles.

I think she'd only put the lemon juice on to stop the bananas going black.

I do a trail mix - haribo sweets, dried fruit, yoghurt raisins, salty nuts etc etc then each little nibble is different. Helps me through the bits where I can't eat anything else.

I've stopped using electrolytes during a run as I think they were contributing to me being sick!

I do use them after a long/hot run though.

I’ve only completed one ultra. I could eat and drink ok for the first 30 miles then didn’t have much after that apart from fruit. The fruit was just amazing and made me feel so good. I take a banana and an orange on my long runs and drink Tailwind.

Pix - I never carry my phone.

But you can buy protective pouches that are supposed to be 100% waterproof.
