Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

@SPR I started working on the aggregator at the start of the year, but put it on hold when I started my new job in February. I tend to compile a spreadsheet of candidate races every year, but it is tedious and easy to miss a few. The software will scrape data from various websites, but will scrape all running events, including road races. I want to build a tool that can be used by any type of runner. The idea is the centralised events database will be one of the 'perks' you get as a member.

I'm having a recovery week, so did circuits last night, but start with a good 30 minutes of running drills/plyometrics - I think I need to do more of these, not just once a week. It's so important to work on muscle co-ordination to work efficiently.

I seem to remember there is a website which was partly intended to consolidate listings of races taking place across the UK. It was called something like fetcheverybody.com or something like that? ;-)

Hmm not sure I've ever heard of it!

In all seriousness, Fetch does have most of the road/trail races, but almost none of the track races. In the 20 years I've been using it, I've almost always had to add the race I'm doing myself. Track runners make up an extremely small minority of the Fetch community!

Pretty much every track race I do is added by me so unfortunately for me, Fetch doesn't really work for finding the races in the first place.

Now when I was searching for a HM for autumn 2023, Fetch was extremely useful.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek obviously! I'm the same with track races; there are sites like "Roster athletics" which are getting some traction being a combined race organiser / listing site for T&F meetings and races, but it is frustrating there isn't a universal source.

Given nearly all track races should be licenced by one of the home authorities, you'd have thought that they'd compile some sort of centralised event listing.

Opentrack definitely the best for track races

Cheers @SPR feeling a bit better today

@Blister Just an age thing isn't it. Id have got sub 2 for 800 with my 32 years old body (when I started training) and the training I have done since. Did 2.05 off minimal training back then.

Getting old is annoying...

@larkim I agree, it's frustrating, but it does seem to be heading in the right direction. It doesn't seem that long ago when I used to enter races by either filling in a flyer left on my car's windscreen or printing and sending an entry form with a check in the post!

@LBAC Si It seems like a lot of big life events happen during our bodies 'peak' too. I ran my best times at 28, got married a year later, and became a dad 2 years after that, and everything went downhill from that point. I don't even turn 40 until November, and I've noticed a huge difference between my 30-year-old body and my current one. I also think I could have run sub 2 or closer to 2 if I had super spikes back then!

If I don't compare my times to younger me/people and use WAVA instead, then I'm not as far behind as it initially seems. My 2.11 the other day gave me a score of 80%, but 10 years ago, 2.11 would have given me a score of around 77%.

Yes we are better than we think as we get older @Blister

Lifestyle choices obviously make a difference too. I enjoy my Bmth away matches too, but it's invariably where I drink the most. That's my choice, but I just can't keep doing it as I got pissed at City last week and now i'm ill, which obviously affect training.

My small knot of V50 rivals are all lovely - but generally a lot more sensible, some with part time jobs. If I need to keep up I need to have a think. I need to use the non/low alcohol beers more LOL! But I do enjoy having something outside of running.

4:25.41 today, interesting race where I probably made a few too many moves but think they were probably the right thing due to the race circumstances. Felt pretty strong for most of it so hopefully with that and coming off a cold there's more to come.

There was gap to the lead 5 after the first 200 and I decided to close it from 500-800 so I could sit on, unfortunately it started to break up at that point so kept going to catch the lead 3, decided to overtake the 2 that dropped off on the 900-1000 bend, hindsight I probably should have sat but felt I had closed on them too fast and didn't want to lose too much but going into lane 2 seemed to stall me a bit (or wake them up) as one tried to pass on the inside from 1000-1100 which I was not having!

I've been thinking I should start my wind up from 300 instead of 400 as I feel a 400 wind up has left me as a target on the back straight unless I overcommit, unfortunately the pressure made me slip into old habits but in a half hearted way rather than full commitment. I then got overtaken by 3 on the back straight which meant I ended up in lane 2 when I went again at 200, got back up to second but form fell apart in the home straight and ended up 4th.

The Victory 2 felt excellent and I think I'll be using them for longer distances. Extremely responsive.
