Thanks Riggys. It looks like you're back on the progression towards getting a good performance in November. Your 18.5 was the same pace as my leasurely 18.8 mile Sunday run.

My route to 4hr+ marathon continues. I've been back running now for just over 2 weeks, and whilst the issues in the left glute / lower back aren't getting noticeably worse, they have stopped getting noticeably better which is a shame.
Aerobic fitness is a million miles away from where I can be, but managed a solidly Z2 run at what will be close to MP in 11 days time, so if I extrapolate that logic, if I was Z2 running at MP for 5 miles in a "proper" build up to a marathon I'd be pretty happy with that. Flawed logic I know, but if I can stay Z2 or low Z3 up to 15 miles on event (not "race") day that should mean I've got the aerobics to get to the finish. Just leg strength may be absent.
Chester mara course has changed a little again - a short out and back added mid-way to allow the race to finish in Grosvenor Park rather than on the race course this year, which then leaves a little trek to get back to the car parking. Not sure why they've done that, as it means there's a net elevation increase (though not much), but perhaps it improves traffic issues locally.
Linking this to the posts about motivation, I'd definitely be doing no running at the moment if I wasn't trying to commit to this so it is helping and I'm crossing my fingers that the 4 hour pacing group will be a lively and entertaining bunch to run with for a chunk of the way. If not, it will be a long trudge!!
I'm still conscious of injury risk, so am fully prepared to bail out either pre-race day or on the day if I feel uncomfortable running, but on balance as of today I'm less injured than I was 2 and half weeks ago so for now I'll continue with this, with the contrary advice from some in the thread being acknowledged and understood!

I'm sorry to hear so many are struggling with general malaise/injury/motivation combos.
I'm sure you performance hungry peeps have found it tough to keep motivated when there was little to chase and then of course that becomes a vicious circle of lack of training.
I suspect many of you respond well to being fit and racing well but don't enjoy slogging out miles for their own sake.
I'm motivated but trying to keep myself on a short leash. Health stuff never feels like it's more than a run or two away, post run bleeding is an ongoing issue at the moment. I know that's TMI for Joe but it keeps me off the marathon track so is relevant to the thread. I'd love to have the confidence in my body to even sign up for one at the moment, but I just think the training would break me.
Remind me of that in six months eh 😂

Anyway I am going to stop whinging now.
20:37 at todays 5k and first place for £100 winnings 😂😁 that's just under a minute faster than May's 5k. There is more to come but its probably about 2-3 months away.
Hope all the marathon long runs are going well.

Well done Curly. I would be happy if I manage 20:37 next weekend.
14.5 miles today which is my longest run since February. Felt like 22
Also managed 4 x 400 metres in windy conditions on Friday and so hopefully improvement starts here.
Only problem is that all my muscles get very tight and if I miss stretching for a day or two its even worse. Standing around while marshalling at Parkrun wasnt good for my back either.
Maybe I am just showing my age

That’s great Curly - under 20 minutes soon no doubt. Good to see you doing well.
Baz, I’m sure you will be back running strongly again. It’s harder as we get older but you’ve shown you can do it in the past.

Well done curly
Better running this week 52 miles my second highest this year. A 18 mile long run, a Parkrun on Saturday followed by a commute to work Saturday night and home Sunday morning. Hoping to keep it up for next few weeks.

Another 18.5 today this time with miles 3-15 at marathon effort. Hard work to keep a even pace due to the wind. Felt hard work as expected.

Good overall pace there Riggys. looks like 3:10-3:15 should be a reasonable target based on that. What are you aiming for?
